WELL JUST ORDERED THE 38-55
« on: November 26, 2007, 10:30:23 AM »
I just ordered the 38-55 target model should be here by the end of the week: $295.00 plus $10.00 shipping (not a bad price)
I also was going in the hospital on Tuesday the 27 but I got a call from the surgeon seem it will be put off until the Dec: 7
Now I have to go and unpack the  hunting gear out from the attic I packed it all away on Sunday

Congrats of the 38-55 order, sorry to hear the surgery has been postponed, I'd be wanting to get it over with, the waiting is not fun, and the sooner you get it done, the sooner you'll be on the road to healing up. ;)

I was ready to go for tomorrow but the waiting game is a killer;I just want to get it over with already
I think the 38-55 maybe a older first models they had only 2 left on hunter warehouse on special
I ran into my Buddie who owns a small gun shop say $15.00 for transfer paper work not a bad price
Tim: what the best way to slug a bore I here some guys use a lead sinker
I am going to stop at the range this week a good Friend I think shoots .378 lead in his target model I have a few months to heel and play with finding the correct bullet I don;t think shooting will be a part of my menu until the summer.I check a few web site and the above price on the target model was the best so far.

That's a very good price! Be glad if it's an older model. I've noticed the pictures of current mfg models appear to have checkering like the topper model; only on the sides. Before this year, the checkering wrapped around the bottom of the forearm.

In the 38-55, I'd much rather have a new model,  how it shoots is more important to me, older models had tight chamber necks, too tight to load bullets that shoot good in them. That said, the BC and Target stocks are sub-contracted machine checkering, so they should be good, the TDC stocks are laser cut.

Get some #9 soft lead egg sinkers, make sure they're not the non-lead kind, they're too hard. Follow the basic directions in the link below. I like to pancake the sinker between dowels, you get a much nicer slug than one that you just push thru the bore, do one near the muzzle and another near the throat, push it out the near end, that way you'll know how much bigger it is at the muzzle than at the other end, it will likely be about .0005" tighter at the chamber end.

That's a great price Rick!! ;)

Hmmm, they list the 38-55 as discontinued if you look at the page with all the rifles they sell. They don't list the 45-70 BC, but they do list the Colt Carbine.
