I walloped a big old doe Saturday morning, I didn't have much time to shoot so I failed to notice the rest of the "herd" that was following her. When I shot I heard several other deer take off but because of the smoke and thick cover I was not able to see them. I plan to go back after her boyfriend this weekend. she was only the 2nd. deer I have seen since the season started. I never fired a shot during firearms season! I don't know about the rut but I have seen several fresh rubs since firearms season closed. Good luck to you and your son this weekend!

I had filled my two tags during regular season and while my wife still had a tag to fill she was either too busy or the weather was bad and she didn't get out.  A friend of mine shot at a doe and missed only to see a 10 pointer following her.  Oh well he probably would have missed him also. :D  I spent time re-scoping a couple of muzzle loaders and now if the weather will get nice this weekend I will head out to the range and see if I can get them to hit a target.  Not as much fun as shooting at deer but this time of year you take what you can get.  A couple of nights ago we had deer steaks from one of the yearlings we shot during regular season.  I sure feel pity for those of you who have only meat from tough old 12 or 14 point bucks.
