why is it?
« on: November 26, 2007, 04:34:41 PM »
i have been carrying my pistol until today,and what happens a doe walks out at 20 yards. i think the best way for me to see a deer is to leave my pistol at home.but my 270 worked.

I'm never without an iron sighted revolver even if I'm rifle hunting. It's there just in case one of those kind come along.

Have you ever washed you car and then it rained?  Same thing happens to me.  Last time was in Ga, the first day of gun season. Had a good sized deer appear at my 5 o'clock at 15 yards, had to wait until it passed behind me and dropped it with my 45-70 at 20 yards, thinking all of the time, "why didn't I carry my Black Hawk?"

that's one of the big reasons (other than I love handgun shooting) I bought my first hunting revolver
I did take one deer with my 1911 at about 20 yards with no problems but I wanted a true hunting handgun

I find that leaning my rifle,bow or shotgun against a tree three or more feet away is the best deer attractant out there. ;D

a nap always calls them to me; or climbing down from my stand gives them the sign to come out and check me closely hanging there in mid air... the little rascals learned to read too.... when the season closes they are attack deer...
got to get a concealed carry permit... hide the gun, pretend to be asleep, or dress like you are not hunting
I have used a PETA t shirt in warm weather with a ban all firearms headband and gotten great shots...
it is all in the strategy..
good luck finding your method

I saw the only buck of the season a couple of weeks ago, when I got a new buffalo horn coyote howler and went out back to try it out.
I was next to a really thick area, and let a a yip-howl,  and a nice 6 point started stomping, snorting and running like h*** in the opposite direction.  :o

no gun of course. ::)

I started carrying a handgun when I was hunting in NC.  If I had a .22 for squirrels I saw deer if I had a .308 I saw squirrels.  Now I will carry the .22 rifle with the .44 Mag or the .308 with a .22 revolver and will see only quail!
Oh well, it's better than mowing the lawn.
