Stainless Handi

Went to the wedsite seen they make a stainless Handi (never seen one) are these still being made? Thinking this would be a good starting point for what I want in 223(I like the look of stainless and blue for what I want to do) ,then if it dose not work out have it sent to Wayen York for rebore rechamber to 300 savage. ? is the 300 savage good enough to take a Elk at 150yrds. and under would mostly be used as a Deer rifle until frame gets sent back for something better for the job . Can I order BC stock and forearm ? want to get a 45-70 barrel or 38-55 Becuase of all the trouble I have read about it ,and send it to Wayen for a redo to 405 or how about a 40-72 is this doable?

The SS frame is actually nickel plated and the barrel is stainless, it's made in several chamberings from 223, 243, 22-250, 270 and 30-06, and next year in 26" heavy barrel 45-70 Ultra. You can also get the stainless barrels as an accessory barrel.

The 300 Savage wouldn't be my first choice for 150yd Elk, it has about the same energy at 100yds as the 30-06 has at 200yds, better than the 30-30, but not comparable to the 30-06. Remington's 300 Savage velocity is comparable to Speer data.

Thanks I think I will wait for the new 45-70 and use this a a starter I now this will take a elk at 150 or less ...............

You can order the BC stock from H&R, just have to ask for it, I don't know the stock number, but the price should be about $120 IIRC.

I know Wayne can do the 405 Win, but the 40-72 might be a bit harder, he'd have to find a reamer for it, 4D doesn't list one.

Thanks thingking about the 405 unless there is something different ,like to be different . What else can the 38-55 be changed to like old and odd want to get in to reloading ...................so it all good

38-72 would be one of em, you'd still have to deal with oversize cast bullets tho.

Another would be .411 & .430 JDJ or .411 Hawk.

Finding the reamers may be problematic tho.

mine is a stainless in 243 and i had a 50 cal. muzzle loader done also. i must admit the muzzle loader was a lot easier to get to shoot accuraitly
