Power belt bullets

Anyone have experience with these bullets good or bad?

I have T/C Thunder Hawk Elite 24" barrel 1:38 twist 54 cal inline.  I shoot musket caps instead of 209 primers or #11 precussions.  Can't seem to find a bullet that groups better than 4 to 6 inches at 100 yards with this gun.  Tried Pyrodex RS, Pyrodex Select and Triple Seven loose.

I've never shot PB's and never get involved in the "Great PB Controversy".  However, with a 1:38 twist I would bet you can get good accuracy with 390 or 425 grain Hornady Great Plains conicals over 80 to 90 grains powder.  Also, you won't have to worry about Grizzlies.

Mine shoot great. The only complaint I have is they work better without a magnum charge.

I have  used them for a couple of years. Accuracy was good using 295's out of my Encore ML.  But results on deer was not great.  The ones I used had the polymer tips.  This year I switched to Hornady's so we will see what happens.

I use 195 areo tips in my 45cal encore with 100grains of t7.

I've read all this crap about PB bullets being inaccurate, non-penetrating, coming apart, etc. and from my perspective, it has more to do with some internal bias or agenda against them. Same goes for the numerous complaints or digs about CVA muzzleloaders. Admittedly, we all can have different experiences with these products but too many times it seems that these outcries are nothing more than piling on what may or may not be the real experience of others. All I can do to refute what I think is unfair criticism is to report my personal experience with both. I shoot a CVA Kodiak Pro 50 cal with two Triple seven 50 pellets and the PB 295 aero tip. No trouble whatsoever with a 3 inch grouping at 75 yards, with a wet and dry patch between shots. This year I shot a nice spike buck at 60 yards with complete pass through, behind the shoulder, a huge exit wound, plenty of blood and a dead deer within 40 yards. Those results are plenty good enough for me.

Have you shot a big deer in the shoulder with a 295 Aero Tip?

Heres a big mule deer doe i shot with a 225 grain aerotip powerbelt in the shoulder. Bullet went through the other side of the shoulder and came to rest just under the hide in a perfect mushroom with no weight loss. Used 80 grains triple 7. 80 yard shot.





Bullet was the size of a quarter.

I have not hit a deer in the shoulder with the PB aerotip but I have with a 30-06 with, I suspect, similiar results; no pass through, a wounded deer that I was, luckily, able to find and finish off with a neck shot. Clearly shot placement is important no matter what you're hunting with. I've killed deer with a 54 cal hawken, with a round ball and a 50 cal TC Black Diamond, with TC sabots, both of which are fine set-ups but for overall ease of loading, maintenance, accuracy and power, I have to say that the combination of the CVA Kodiak Pro and PB 295 aerotips is my favorite.

Im going to give those platinums a try in my .45  They are supposed to have a better base on them, plus a better jacket. Next year i'll be hunting in  an area where a 75 yard shot is the farthest i'll have to shoot. Thats good too, Allows me to use less powder.

For me the shoulder shot means instant death.
I am talking about the high shoulder shot, from left to right, in the middle of the shoulder, and about 5 inches down from the top of the deer's back.



You are aiming for the bottom of the spine. A shot there will shatter the spine, and metal or bone shrapnel will take out both lungs. You will also cut the main artery.
I have made this shot ten times with the 30-06, bang flop every time.
Also, made this same shot last year with my fierce Savage muzzleloader, same result.

I have a Traditions 50 cal. bolt action, and shoot the 245 grain hollow point power belt. It is a great bullet. Shoots with great accuracy, and is easy to load as compared to the sabot bullets. Might cost a little more than the sabots but its worth it. The first deer I shot with the inline was with these power belts, deer went right down did'nt even twitch. Good working bullet. scout4<><

I have never used any PB's , imo maybe some people try to push the lighter weight ones too fast. I know that vel. is good for flat traj. but i would much rather have decent accuracy and power with a good load. 70-110 grs. should handle any deer.

Try the precision rifle dead center in the 200, 260 or 300 grain.  Any of these weights should work according to their bullet selection chart.  Go to their website and see what you find.  (prbullet.com)  Give them a call and see what they recommend in your caliber and rate of twist.  Let us know what you end up shooting.  Good luck, Greg

245gr Aero Tip Powerbelt 80 gr 777! Like all bucks shot with this combo in the past.... Dead on the spot or very easy retrieval!
