"Gettin Close In A Tree Stand"
« on: November 29, 2007, 04:43:56 AM »
All, I just have to tell this story. Boy, Froghunter really did me in yesterday! We were out hunting deer and Froghunter put me up in an old climbing tree stand, about five feet up in a skinny tree and the wind was blowing around 25-30 mph! LOL! Now I'm a very small person but with all those hunting clothes you would think i weighed 140lbs! Anyway here I am up in the tree stand got my binoculars in hand and we had 20 to 30 MPH winds yesterday and this tree started rock-in back and forth! I kept hearing crack, squeaking! So at this point I'm thinking sh** this whole tree is coming down and with me in it! So I told myself well I shouldn't break anything with all this padding on, if I fall out of this thing! I sat in this old tree stand for about 3 hours when I looked at my clock and seen it was 2:48 and so I got on my radio to let Froghunter know that he needed to watch the time because our kids would be home at 3:50 pm school and needed to be picked-up. So Froghunter radioed  me back and said he was coming out of his new and up-dated treestand, then down the creek bed towards me. He would go by my stand and go out get the kids than return ! He also said he was gonna do a little drive so pay attention to my rear! Now I could look around this tree but that was about it! All of a sudden I heard something moving fast ! So I looked up and saw this big doe about (I'd say) 140 pounds come from the rear of me! ''Talk about a deer under your butt,  she was right there about 7-10 yards . So, I stood up in the treestand with my muzzelloader and said "Wooooo", thinking she would stop, but she took off toward Froghunter. She saw Froghunter coming up the creek bed did a 180'ie and come trotting back towards me. I said again alittle louder "Wooooo" then she stopped and I turned around, it was all I could do, in a wabbley treestand, Wrapped my arms around the tree, Tried to postion my gun, when she looked at me, I losed my balance.I shot completely over her back, after the shot, she was just a getting it out of there! Now, I wear glasses but don't need them to look threw my scope . But man to top this story off I looked down and what looked, like a  dead wolf or coyote which was lying there! So, I said when Froghunter came up, "There's a dead wolf or coyote down there", turns out that it was a Ol' LOG, I was looking at.  Looked so much to me like one Froghunter just a laughed, wanting to know where the deer was. He asked where is that wolf you are talking about. In front, I said, He's a laughing , It's a log where are your glasses! LOL! I had  a very adventurous day and have enjoyed my first deer hunting season with my Sidekick ML. We have about three more days to go and will try again on Saturday.

Good Luck to all!

Congrats.

When it's all said and done, the stories are what it's all about.

I started a hunting journal this year to record all my "adventures".  Wish I would have started one my first year out, 20 years ago.

mrsfroghunter, that husband of yours is very lucky to have such a great lady as you to be his partner in life. You my dear are in truth a dear, and if he never gets another deer he will still be well ahead of the game. My wife and I celebrated our 39th anniversary tonight and I have been able to get her out in the woods with me and even to sit in a ground blind with me while I bow hunted but I have never been able to get her to do what you did. Congratulations to both of you and please tell that lucky husband of yours for me that he should do something special for you for being such a special person, and that he is indeed a lucky man, perhaps he can buy you another Handi rifle of your very own!! (I know you are such a dear person that you might even allow him to use it occasionally)....<><....:)

MSP,

Congrats to 39 years of marriage! Froghunter and I both are going into 18 year's! I have found threw out marriage ''YES '' it is a give and a take! Froghunter enjoys hunting As I enjoy flower's in my yard! I actually like hunting because I'm more aware of my surroundings than anything! I got 1 Doe this year already! But just tried out the tree stand I'd much rather be on he ground but hey sometimes the brush in some  states are too thick and a tree stand is all you can do!LOL Where we are in Missouri you can really do either one! As far as my weapon's you know I'm Happy with my muzzle loader, My 20 Gage,My Double barrel, and my 243 I really don't need anything more! We after Deer Season ends on Dec 2,2007 We are getting into those rabbit hunts! They crack me up more than anything! I've harvested 3 of those already! My husband retires from the military in June 2008 ! He has 26 year's in ! That's more than he needed to do I am Very proud of him and the thing's he has done! On a lighter note best wishes to you and your spouse and Happy Holiday's!

I retired 7 years ago after 32.5 years in Law Enforcement and went back to work this year as an investigator at the local District Court. Since your lucky husband is retiring after 26 years in the Military (Thanks for your service Froghunter) that picture of young Rhonda with her first deer must be Mr & Mrs. Froghunters lovely daughter. All the best to both of you (and your daughter ;D), thanks and I wish you both many happy anniversaries also....<><....:)
