Long Johns ?

 I was going through Cabellas long john section and the more I read the more I got confused. I even called them and got 3 differentanswers.
   Which of their longs are the warmest. ? I can't wear rheir under armor or afford Raven wear from Canada. Since I had surgery I need the warmest thing I can find  or should I look some other place ?

I wouldn't buy anything off of them by mail order.

The people that works in the stores are not product testers, they are just plain folk - looking to make a buck.  Some of the people that works there cannot afford the products that they sell.

So asking a salesman which long johns are the warmest is like asking the kid at the car dealership that washes the cars - which one drives the best.

If you have a Cabella's near you, you would be better off going there and buying what you want in person.

I like Dick's Sporting Goods better than Cabella's.

We have a Dunhams here - but they never seem to have anything in a 3 X!

I have some of the Cabela's stuff in Medium (gray in color)  and Heavy (Olive in color) weight.  Both work well.  I really can not tell you how warm they are as I wear different outer clothes depending on what the temp outside is.  I also have one of the heavy weight union suits and it works really well with coveralls or bibs and do not have to worry about the draws drooping.  I also have two pair of Dickies long johns I got at the local Army Navy store that seem to be warmer, or at least thicker.  They were also a whole lot cheaper.
You may try layering your long johns in wearing a pair of draws and a union suit over them.
all I can tell you I was warm wearing the mediums with the Herter's bibs and jacket in a blizzard this past October but I don't get cold as long as my feet are warm.

The warmest I've EVER found bar none are made by Duofold Company and they are fleece black in color. When they touch your skin it's like someone laid an electric blanket on you. Dunno for sure they are still being made but most likely are. I got mine from DNR back when they were an advertiser on this site. They never paid in cash so we had to take merchandise in payment and I got them for part payment one year. That was the best investment in warm weather gear I've ever bought.

Graybeard reminded me of wader liners that I have that are fleece and are made in different configurations from pants to bibs that could also work for you. 
If your hunting is tree or other stand then these would be good for you.
I would invest in insulated outer gear and layer clothing under it.  If your stand hunting then bring the outer coveralls or bibs with you and put them on when you get to the stand rather than walk to your stand in them and build up sweat that will cool as you sit.
As another guy wrote in the how to keep your feet warm he brings a cheap sleeping bag out to the stand with him that may work for you.  Just stuff it in a small back pack along with your coffee and lunch.

Actually since I wrote that last post I've bought a set of the cold weather under armor.  It's fairly expensive but it is undeniably better than anything else I've ever used.  I wicks better and is more comfortable than duofold.  It's also much warmer than my set of traditional under armor.

For all night coyote hunting up here in North Dakota, a set of (Cabelas) silk underliners wicks moisture away leaving you dry and warm at any temp. I use them under standard amry issue wool long johns. Can lay out under the stars all night.

I haven't seen a recent cat. but I wear some that are called power wick or some thing like that. They were near the military line in old cat. The inside is like a 100wt polar fleece that has been cut to look like a waffle iron, outside is slick so they dont snag up against clothing. These are fairly bulky but not like a quilted underwear set. They are black in color, I also wear the grey cabelas underwear all the time,especially if active at work outside even down to -10. The green ones are good if only sorta active down to about -10, the black ones I would say -20 if only sort of active.

If you have serious circulation problems and are in a cool area the black ones should do the job. I keep the house at 65 I'm fairly warm blooded and really can't move much without getting uncomfortable. For me the gray ones are just right if I'm sitting around at 60 degrees shirt and jeans in a tree stand for a couple hours.
