Coon, colony traps are not legal in many of our states.Others have a size limitation which would not allow the taking of beaver in them.My state of Minnesota does not have a size limitation , but we were told that if abuses as far as size became a problem a limitation would follow. So it would seem that colonies for beaver in the states is not a common beaver taker.
If any of you reading this have any info as to the use of colonies for beaver ,and you state regulations--please let us know. Tom

Coon, I would say that the most used colonies are in the 7"x7" x 24" inch range. Our DNR did'nt want trappers to get carried away in the sizes of colonies, our furbearer specialist gave no size dimensions as to what "was getting carried away".
Most states have a definitive size regulation on their colony traps, so it was nice that at least for now--we are being left to our own judgement.Tom
