The spacer is available at H&R and Brownell's, new forends come with the spacer already mounted, forends are listed in the 2007 Retail Parts price list page in the FAQs.

You'll have to ask someone who has actually done it, I sold a set that I got on ebay after seeing how much finish work you need to do, I don't mind refinishing so much, but the forend in particular needs a fair amount of work on the GSI stocks, the butt is rough finished and the stock bolt hole is bored. I'll leave the details to someone who has done one. I prefer the completely finished H&R and Boyds stocks myself. ;)

Calling the factory stocks "junk" isn't a wise choice of words, you're offending a lot of Handiholics! >:(

Stripped screw holes are easily fixed(see FAQs) and used to be a common problem, but I haven't had any in a long time on a new firearm or stock set, and I have more than the average Handi owner, a lot more. ;)

I have finished dozens of stocks from Gunstocks Inc. and am very pleased with the workmanship of the stocks. The stocks are semi-finished and do require final fitting to the gun ( very little fitting if any on most of the stocks ). The outside of the stocks are sanded but will require final sanding and a finish applied. I have finished the stocks for myself and for customers that don't feel compatant enough to do the work. In my opinion even if you have to hire a compatant smith to do the finishing you will have a top of the line handi with gunstocks Inc. stocks on it. Well worht it.

The Boyd's are only available on new H&R firearms and direct from H&R at this time, some have been sold on ebay, but I don't think they're available there anymore. H&R is out of them until the new year. They're available in two flavors so far, cinnamon and camo laminated, bottom pic is a factory available .243 Ultra, top is an Ebay purchased butt and H&R checkered camo forend on my 7x57. They sell for $122.50 shipped as listed on the 2007 Retail Parts Price list page in the FAQs.
