Encore 30-06
« on: December 05, 2007, 10:03:48 AM »
I'm looking to buy one of standard Encores with the 26" heavy barrel... if any of you guys have one how are they shooting with factory ammo? I'm not a hand loader so what bullets are shooting well? Thanks!

The only nonhandloads I've shot in mine have been military and they shot as well as could be expected (not stellar but OK).

I would suggest you pick up several boxes of cartridges from the major manufactures like Federal, Hornady, Remington and Winchester and see what your gun likes.  Mine likes 165 to 168 gr. bullets best.

Thanks, that's what I had in mind... I would really like to shoot the 165 grain Nosler Partition.

I have a regular stainless/synthetic encore with a 26" 30-06 barrel.  I didn't have time to work up a handload before last years deer season so I tried several different kinds of factory ammo.  My barrel shoots the 150gr weight bullets the best.  If I shoot factory ammo out of it I use 150gr Remington corelokts.  In my rifle it shoots sub MOA and that's very good for a factory gun and factory ammo.  Just regular old ammo you'll find on any shelf and it took two deer.  Only bad thing was that both shots were under 100 yards and I didn't get much of an exit wound, or blood trail.  I didn't need a blood trail because the doe dropped right there and the buck dropped about 50 yards away and within sight.  I'd look at the 150r weight factory ammo for deer and then go from there.  Good luck and let us know how it works for you.
