Braided Fishing Lines
« on: June 23, 2003, 05:18:07 AM »
:D Hey there folks,

What do you folks know about the new braided fishing lines such as POWER PRO?

I am fishing in the Clearwater and or Salmon rivers of Idaho for Salmon and Steelhead and am making the switch to a bait casting rig after years of spincasting.

Some friends have used  the braided lines with some good and a bunch of bad results.

ENTER POWER PRO -- This line from what little we can find out seems to be what most of the others aren't, meaning they are up to what their ads claim.

Anyone out there have some real life, hands on experience with the new lines? If so what are your findings???????

Keep em coming!

for what its worth, I've used power pro for the last year on fresh water catfish and it works pretty darn good as long as you dont need it to be abrasion resistent.  Its abrasion resistence is very low, but everything else works just fine for me in open water situations.  hope this helps in some way.

:D hey there shb,

Thanks for the come back, hope there will be a bunch more.

I have yet to use the braided line, except for a few minutes on my pardners outfit. However, even as bad as the Power Pro may be, his luck with some of the other braided line is much worse.

During my short trial, the line broke while I was fighting one of the three salmon I had on that day. The line was new when we started the day and it also broke a couple more of times while he was trying to get it retied. Not sure what brand that line was.

A bit of local color on the North fork of the Clearwater, name of Jimmie, gave uw a bit of a demo with some Power Pro he had in his little home/store.  My pardner was impressed, but did say he would like to try a bit more distruction on it before buying it.

Thanks.

Keep em coming!

I use Power Pro exclusively.

It is the best line that I have ever tried, and I will never change again.

Where I fish is in the LA. marsh, so I don't have any experience with abrasion breaks, but for reds and trout it works great.  I use a bait caster and since I changed to this those profession overruns are non existant.

The sensitivity is the best I have ever seen.  I use the 6/30 line ( 6 lb mono diameter with 30# strength) for my salt water rigs.  I have even strung up my ultralight bream/crappie rig with the 10# variety.  I don't think you can buy a better line.

If anyone from Power Pro is reading this, they can send cash, check or money order for the endorsement.  LOL

I'm with acearch72...best line I've ever used.  I have it on 3 baitcasters and fish the Tampa Bay area, saltwater.  I have had it run around pilings, over rocks, etc and have never had a problem with it.  Even had a snook wrap it around a piling once and it still held together.  That line is 3 years old by the way and I have no plans to replace it anytime soon.

I used mono for years...an it ALWAYS parted when it touched something remotely sharp.

My $.02
Thanks!
Bob
