I got my first first deer! (and they were harvested with a K-31)

I just started deer hunting last year, but didn't actually get anything until this year.

Last week, I managed to get a buck and a doe!  So now I have a freezer full of venison.

This is posted here because I got them with an unmodified K-31.  I have discovered that's it's a great hunting rifle.  Dead accurate, lightning fast reload and a potent cartridge for deer size game. 

I was worried that it might be cumbersome to carry around the woods but it really isn't.  Since the sling attaches to the left side of the weapon, a right-hander like me can sling it across my body with the muzzle down, and stock very near my shooting shoulder.  You can have your hands free to move through brush and still whip the rifle up into shooting position within two seconds.

The Swiss guns are often regarded as being some of the best manufactured military rifles ever made.  I've often heard them labeled as "the Swiss time piece of military rifles".

I have an old Weaver k3 with a St. Marie mount on mine.  I can't believe how well it handles and shoots.  And it looks cool too.  I tell people it is a special expensive rare sniper rifle. 

What ammo did you use?  I bought some Hornady but I saw some Privi Partisan SP ammo that was
much cheaper, about $8 from AIM.

I bought some Wolf Gold Line 174 gr. Soft Points from Grafs.  I will definitely use them again.  In my rifle they were as accurate as GP-11.  I recovered one of the rounds after it had traveled through a lot of bone (shoulder, quartering away) and I had expanded like a four petal flower, but still held together.

And they were by far the cheapest hunting round offered in the caliber.

I've had good luck with the Wolf Gold in .308 so that it works well in 7.5 should be no surprise.

Anyone can take a Rem 700 or other main line factory weapon and anchor a buck but you did it with a fine weapon with history behind it.  You got it going on dude!
I use the Wolf 174sp also and they are killers. I have $1,000 guns that shoot no better than my K31 and the uniqueness is special to me.
Hunt with a vintage lever action and iron sights and the excitement repeats itself.  Go for any of the old calibers like 44-40 or 32-20 and the reward is great.  You have to actually hunt and not just snipe from a baited box blind.
