New here and going to buy my Handi in a minute. A few ?'s

Hey folks,

I am on my way to buy my new handi in 243 Win.  I have the option of one of the combo's or one without a scope.  Is the scope that comes with them any good, or will it need to be replaced? 

Also, can I get replacement iron sites to attach to it?

You could order a set of Williams sights from H&R and have a gunsmith install them for you.
My 30-30 Handi came with Williams sights from the factory, they are not bad at all.

I don't know about the scopes (brand name, etc)

Welcome! I dunno about the scopes, no one has bought a combo and reported on it. The 243 Superlight comes with sights, or you can send your frame in and get one of the various .243 accessory barrels  fitted with sights in addition to the scope rail it comes with, it used to cost $47, but I dunno if they've increased that cost or not.

mrgd, welcome to gbo, i have seen the new nef rifles with factory scopes here at a local gun store, but i don't remember the brand of the scopes, any scope is better than none, if you buy the gun, you can always change the scope, if you buy that handi-rifle you will want more handis.

MY .243 came witha scope from the factory. it is a marlin scope. mine is still shooting large groups at 50 yrds and opening up even more at 100 yrds. i have shot 60 rounds thru it. i am going to put a bushnell on it that i have laying around the house to check and make sure it aint the scope.

"it is a marlin scope" = made for Marlin scope, Marlin doesn't make scopes, just like Browning, Winchester and S&W doesn't,  they contract with OEM optics manufacturers to make a scope to their specs and priceline. If the scope is bad, Marlin/H&R should replace it for ya tho.
