Going doe hunting today.

It is the last weekend of the WI anterless hunt and I am heading out in a few minutes. It is 12 below zero right now, ouch..  I am taking my AR15 in 6.8 SPC and my Encore pistol in 6.5x55 since I have never taken deer with these guns before. A co worker is part owner of a 600 acre parcel and is taking me on a "guided" hunt. I am excited even if it is antlerless only. My greatest fear is, the buck of a life time will walk right by me today, and continue to walk, unharmed.

never did say how you did bro.... I went that last weekend too and the second deer I saw was the nice 8 pointer I missed with my handgun during the regular gun season. He stood at 40 yards and looked at me before tearin' off thru the knee deep snow. It was nice to see he made it thru the season on Public land and knowing he will be even bigger and in the same area next year. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of deer I saw and altho I didn't come home with anything( missed a large doe standing @ 45 yards with the .460) it was just nice to get out one more time. It's still amazes me how exciting an antlerless hunt with a handgun can be.

I seen several fleeting glimpses of several deer but no good shots. It was very cold, a high of 3 below that day. We were about 1.5 miles back in the woods. At 3:30 pm and I here my buddy shoot in the distance. He made a great 200 yard shot across a swamp and killed a doe fawn. I was glad the deer was small since we were in for a long drag. He was happy with the performance of his new A-Bolt in 270. He gave the deer to me and I was pleased. It was a great hunt filled with camaraderie and good times.
