« on: December 08, 2007, 08:04:08 AM »
Got a hell of a deal on a 243 howa today. Figured i give it to the grandson for a first deer rifle. Got to thinking and realized ive never loaded a 243 in my life. Lots of 6mm amd all the small .25s but never a 243!

Lloyd, the 243 kills deer best with 100 grain slugs.  When I had my 243 the best load I found was with 40 grains of IMR4350 and Rem. 100 grain C/L bullet.  I used Win brass and Win standard large rifle primers and seated them really close to the lands.  My rifle didn't like boat-tail bullets at all.   All three of my kids started out with the 243 but have since moved up to 30 calibers, even my daughter now has my 30/06 that used to be my deer magic.

My .243 deer load is 100 grain Nosler Partitions with 41.5 grains of IMR 4350. This load is very accurate in my Tang safety Ruger and chronoraphs at 2872 fps.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.
