New Knight Disc questions
« on: December 08, 2007, 04:39:24 PM »
I recently picked up a used Knight Disc with only 10 rounds through it.  On the advice of another shooter, I picked up loose 777 FFG and TC ShockWave 250 gr sabots.  It shoots the 209 primers in the plastic discs.

I'm off to the range tomorrow to shoot it for the first time and to sight it in.  Any load suggestions (or other)?  Someone told me 100 gr powder, and someone else said 80.  I'm open to all ideas.  It's my first time with a muzzle loader.  I'd prefer to not blow myself up.

I shoot 2 50 gr. pellets of 777 in all my Knights and get real good to great accuracy although I use Deadcenters instead of Shockwaves.  Had my Disc set up for a New Mexico elk hunt and was shooting 150 grs under Barnes X bullets and got real good groups with it also but the recoil was something else.

Don't shoot 150 grains of loose. The magnum charge of loose is 120 grains. It is measured different than the pellets. 120 grains of loose is the equivalent of a magnum load. Start with a medium charge and work your way up. I like Winchester primers they seem to work good. What type of scope is on it?

What is a medium charge?

I have a 1.5-4.5 x 32 Cat's eye scope on it.

Around 75-80 grains of powder but there is no set amount.

I have owned one for several years...I have 2 favorite loads...For shots inside 100-125 yards, 100 grains of loose Goex FFF and a 300 gr Barnes MZ copper bullet....For shots out to 150 yards, 90grs Goex FFF and a 250 T/C Shockwave...

With this last load, I sight in 2 1/2 inches high at 100 yards and I'm about 2 1/2 low at 150...

This all sounds horribly complicated.  I bought the 777 FFG  and 250gr TC Shockwave, so I'd like to use them.  I'll never shoot over 100 yards.  I'll probably never shoot over 50 yards.  I suppose I'll try an 80 gr load and adjust from there.

You have got a very good sabot and I would not worry about it.

I have 3 Knight M-L rifles. I just finished a deer hunt & the bag was a big doe. My load lately has been 95 grns of RS Pyrodex under a home-cast 240grn saboted lead bullet. When the last of my pyrodex is gone I will try 777. I would try about 85-90 grns of the 777, it is supposed to give more pressure for a given volume than most of the others.

I have never had any problems with any t/c sabot. I would tweak the powder more before changing sabots.
