Finally got my new .243 Handi....
« on: December 09, 2007, 03:30:42 PM »
Hey folks,

I finally got my new Handi .243.  I went to the range at a friends ranch.  I had it bore sited at the retailer.  Apparently, they are now bore sighting for about a 400 yard zero!  It was way high at 100 yds.  I clicked her down to just shy of 2" high at 100.

I love it.  The trigger could use a little work, but it is no worse than any other factory rifle I have bought, crisp, just a little heavy.  I can't believe I got an accurate out of the box rifle for that price.

I have been drooling for a .243 for a while now.  The more I have read about them and their accuracy, and balance of velocity, and mass, and BC.  I love the versatility.

Thanks for this board,

Trevor

ps- I have already spoken to a friends brother that wants to sell his .500 handi.  I feel a habit forming.

Has the retailer gone mad, boresighting for 400yds for a .243, he's been reading to many gun magazines and not doing enough hunting, I also am a handi .243 owner and very happy with the rifle and calibre,
Regards Howard.

Howard,

I don't think he had gone mad so much as he had gone stupid.  I don't think he knew what he was doing.  It took him three times before he found the right rod to hold the end piece on.  He told me it should have been on at 100 yards!  Anyway, I got it adjusted and I can't wait to shoot it some more an then go take some coyotes or a bobcat or two.

If your .243 has high rings it can bore sight high unless you compensate for it.

This is the third time I have typed this since the power keeps going off.  I went with the factory Simmons 3-9X40.  I have one like it on my -06 and have been very pleased though it is on the cheap end of things.  It has never jarred off zero, or drawn moisture or anything.  I hope this new one does as well.

We have a major ice storm right now.  If it was a snow storm I'd be coyote hunting with my new handi.
