Winchester model 100

I bought an old win. model 100. We sighted it in, and it did very well. But, we were shooting one shell at a time. After loading the clip, imagine my surprise when it shot full auto. Anyone had this problem?  Does anyone know what  could be wrong?

The older model 100's (first few years) were known for going full auto.  Winchester did a recall to fix the problem.  I don't know what actually caused it to do it.  You might want to call Winchester.  If you have a good gunsmith in your area see what he says.  My friend has a model 100 308Win. that has been great.  I don't know if his had the problem and got fixed or if his is a later one.  I'm trying to get him to sell it.......he won't.  Good luck, let us know how you make out!

Yeah,
Mine is a 308. I will send an email or call Winchester. Or, I could use it to kill the deer and butcher it at the same time.

I would recommend calling Winchester. They issued a firing pin recall in the early 1990s. I actually got a notification as I had filled out the Warranty card when I bought my Model 100 in .308 in the early 1970s. The trigger group was susceptible to dirt and may need a good cleaning. I remember one that came into the shop that had such a dirty trigger mechanism that it did not operate properly. Cannot remember what the customer said it did tho, sorry. Mine actually jammed due to a braze or weld giving out on the operating slide or such (hard to remember now), and Winchester fixed these for free if the problem occurred. Mine was never accurate, truly a 4 inch grouper at 100 yards. My buddy got a shooter though, and he probably still has the rifle, at least he did at the time of the recall. Good luck.
