Author Topic: What scope do you have on your favorite predator rifle???? (Read 7251 times)

What do you guys use on your predator/yote guns? I just picked up a Remington 700 in 6.8SPC to play with.... I am partial to fixed power scopes, and I have a Weaver Grand Slam 4.75x40 sitting on the shelf right now. I also have two Bushnell 3200 3-9x40's with the ballistic reticle sitting right next to it. I am thinking of setting the gun up with two different scopes, one for deer/yote hunting, and one for targets. I know that 95% of people use variables, but I never ever move my scopes off of the 4x or 5x while hunting. That's my issue with almost all of the scopes that have ballistic reticles, the scope has to be at the highest power for the holdover bars to work correctly. I am thinking of the Grand Slam for hunting, and a fixed 10x or maybe a 15x for target shooting. Let's hear what you have to say. It's very much appreciated! Chris

I have 2 coyote rifles that I carry alot. 1 is an AR for up close and personal and when we are pushing them with dogs and when Gene is carrying his long gun. It wears a 3 x 9 Leupold. The other is my long gun. It is a .22-6mm and wears an 8 1/2 x 25 Leupold with mil-dots. I dial in elevation and use mil-dots for drift.

Got a Ruger #1 in 22-250 and a T/C Contender in 223. They both wear Leupold 3 X 9's.

Two of my all time favorites!

AR-15 Bushmaster...........open sights! Good on coyote sized target to 250yards with 75gr Hornady AMAX projectiles.
Remington 870...............open sights! Good on those late night missions of a fresh pile of deer guts.

My back up, what ever I'm using for deer hunting. Lately it's an Armalite AR-30 chambered in .338LM with a NightForce 12-42x56mm. Good on anything at any range! Not worried about hides, as most just get whacked and left for the buzzards(or their brothers/sisters)! Was thinking about changing for the last week for modern rifle(deer season)? Maybe the T/C Encore in .300WM with a Nikon Monarch 4-16x42mm BDC(this scope is great...recommend everyone get at least two!)!!!!

I have two rifles that I use for predator hunting. One is a 30-06 standard Handi, with a Burris 4X12 with Ballistic Plex. The second is a H&R Ultra in .223, I have a 5X15X50 Night Force on this rifle.

My 6.8MM AR15 has a Nikon 1 1/5X6X42 on it this is the best coyote scope/gun setup i have put my hands on. 20yrd runners or 200yrds standing no problem.
My .223 AR15 has a bushnell 4200 2.5X10 also a great hunting scope.

my primary rifle rock river midlength ar 15, is topped with a konus pro 6-24x44 mil dot reticle scope ( a bit overkill but it works nicely, i like to get up close and personal from a long distance if u know what i mean lol)

my fallback rifle NEF handi rifle in 223 is topped with a nikon buckmasters 3-9x40

my brush/close quarters rig rem 870 supermag with 23 vent rib with buckshot

not to steal the thread but rbergum95, how do u like your konus scopes have u had good luck with them what do u feel about the glass quality?

Many years ago i had P.O. Ackley make and install a 26" bbl on a left hand 700 Rem. action for me. I had him chamber it for .240 Wby... I put a 3.5x10 Leupold scope on it and worked up some good loads...

I wanted something big enough to drop wolves at long range, or anything else up to the size of a deer. With the proper bullets loaded, it does pretty good job...

actually i love the konus scopes. i am currently switching ALL of my scopes out for them. id put them up against anything else on the market. ive tried them in all light conditions, from high noon to 3 AM with a spotlight and they never failed me. they dont lose zero or shift zero at different ranges. and you absolutely can not beat the price.

My favorite is a Leupold VXL 6.5 - 20 x 56 extreme varmint reticle on my Savage 12 VLP. (204)
I also have a Bushnell Elite 4200 6–24 x 50mm with mil dot on my Savage 12 BTVSS. (204)
The Bushnell is nice but I still prefer the VXL with the varmint reticle.

Savage 12BVSS .223 Rem wears a Burris 6-24x older model.

And my Marlin 45-70 wears a Leupold 2.5x scout scope.

i use a scope for were i hunting. Most times a Barska 6-24 is on my .22LR and for low light hunting a 50mm red dot rides it Wetten dass.

The rifle I have carried to the field for the last year is a Wilson Combat UT-15 Tactical Carbine with a Trijicon ACOG TA31DOC sight. I do a lot of calling and the Doktor Optic red dot mounted on top of the ACOG has come in really handy for the dogs that just appear from nowhere at 5 feet away. The ACOG is 4 power and the range reticle helps on the ones that hang up. It is a pricey outfit but it sure do shoot.

I have a Rem. 700 chambered for .240 Wby... It wears a 3.5x10 Leupold. That's the longest range predator rifle i own. My most used "pest" rifle is a Rem. 597M, and it wears a 7.5x Leupold.

Im a Bushnell fan. The Banners (3-9/ 4-12) have sat on top of my calling rifles for years. Recently I went with Bushnell Trophy 3-9 x 40 Mildot and am quite happy with it.

My brother in law calls in coyotes to less than a hundred yards. Out to 75 yards I can use a snapshot. I use a set of williams peep sights on a 357 mag Winchester trapper. 125 jhp. Makes a mess out of almost anything. there are a lot of ranchers who know my bother in law and want thier coyote problem addresed. Don't really need a scope to do it.
