new 1894 barrel

I have an 1894 with a 16" .41 mag. barrel that I am giving thought to rebarreling to another caliber.  Is Marlin willing to do this kind of work or do I need to seek a gunsmith?  Also, does a rifle that was originally a .41 mag. have to have more than the barrel replaced?  Thanks, Gulfdaddy

Don't think Marlin will change calibers for you. Check with GBO Sponsor SSK Industries I know they've done several for GBO members in the past. I'm not sure if any of our other sponsors do but several have had SSK do it.

Marlin probably would not convert to another caliber.  Even if they did, the STICKER SHOCK would amaze you.  I had ideas about re-barreling, re-stocking and re-finishing an aged 39M to a 1897 (straight stock, 24 inch octagon barrel) and got a real surprise.  (Ruger is almost as bad!)  Trade for or buy what you want...It's a lot cheaper and way less time involved.  Gunsmithing can get real expensive, real quick! and the results aren't always guaranteed.

You might consider that someone else is dying to have a 41 Magnum Guide Gun.  While they didn't make many 41s, I have only seen 1 in the last 10 years.  Run an ad here or SASSnet or singleactions  and be amazed at the number of people who want it...and the Cowboy Shooters aren't shy reaching for their wallets if they see something they like!

Slightly Off Topic.  I commented about some bullet moulds  on some forums and got a bunch of people who wanted what had been sitting in a box for 20+ years.  Also some used Ruger XR3-RED grip frames got  traded for something else ...or yankee dollars. 
When they said Sharps, I always thought BIG 50!

I may well just buy new as SSK wanted $650 just to rebarrel not to mention the bolt work.  You can buy a new 1984 cl for less.  I was just looking for a reasonable conversion.  I will talk with the sass guys and just go get a now 32-20 off of the shelf.  I have had an itching for a 1892 in 32-20 so I may just hunt around for a deal there.  Thanks guys of the info.
