Just got my CR-45LC!
« on: December 12, 2007, 04:49:03 AM »
Gathered up my CR-45LC yesterday afternoon.  Took it home and gave it a good cleaning before the first trip to the range this weekend.  Test chambered a couple of my reloads and am a bit disappointed that my LSWC reloads will not chamber.  Due to a short throat in the chamber and the long shank of the LSWC forward of the crimping groove.  LRN and 300gr JSP chamber fine.  While I had not planed to re-chamber this gun to .454 I’m not considering it as the extra .10 inch of chamber would solve the LSWC problem.

Maybe just cleaning up the throat a bit is all you really need, especially since you reload for that already.

Xhare,

My thought too, however, I don't think the cost difference between cleaning up the throat and re-chambering to .454 would be that great.

GOSH OHMIGHTY!

What happened to the price of lead?  All I can figure is the Chinese are putting it into all the toys they export to the USA…  I buy my bullets in bulk once a year and from last year cast, bullets have gone up almost 100%.

Anyhow, I bought a box of x500 200gr LRNFP .452  bullets to reload for my Ruger Old Army w/ R&D conversion and my CR-45LC.

What do you guys think of this load?

Winchester case
WLP primer
8gr Unique
200gr LRNFP
Velocity 900fps from a revolver not sure for rifle

What they make a boolit mold in 452 less than 250 gr??????  In all seriousness (or as much that way as I get) I have loaded some 200 grain real boolits over FFg but have not had the weather yet to test them at the range in my Ruger or carbine.  The 200gr LRNFPs should be fun over FFg or trailboss but you only ordered 500 that could become a problem in the near future.

Please, let us know what load you decide to go with and give us a range update.  I just might have to order anouther mold.

OFF TO A BAD START
« Reply #5 on: December 13, 2007, 04:45:10 PM »
I'm off to a bad start with my CR-45LC.  Took it to the range tonight and it has a problem.  The hammer transfer bar does not drop after I fire the carbine and release the trigger.  Thereby causing the firing pin not to retract once the action is open.  If the thumb back the hammer a bit you can hear and feel the transfer bar fall.  If I dry fire it the transfer bar falls as soon as I release the trigger :-(.  SOOOOOOOOOO, back to H&R for repair.  Figure while she is back getting sorted out I'll go ahead and get both 28" 12Ga and .357 barrels fitted.  I'll give customer service a ring in the morning.  Still trying to deside if I want a plane 28" Full of 28" Vent Rib with changeable chokes.

I want to start to cast my own, but I can't afford to at the price I am paying for boolets.
250gn for 45 long colt $15.00 for 250.
405gn for 45-70 $16.00 per 100.

This is done by 2 guys that I meet at my club. They bought a real bullet machine off Ebay. They do it to offset the price of there cowboy action hobby.  I don't have to ship since I see them every couple weeks :)

My CR-45LC is on the way back to H&R for repair.  Talked to customer service and they told me to send it in.  While the transfer bar is being fixed I went ahead and ordered a 357 Mag barrel and a 12Ga 28" Full plane barrel.  Customer service said they would wave the $15 per barrel fitting fee and return postage since it was a repair, thank you.  I figured the plane 12Ga barrel was more in keeping with the vintage look of the gun, the 357 Mag barrel will be another I can enjoy at the local indoor range with  mild loads.  Kicking things up, my old Speer #10 reloading manual shows a load using a .358 180Gr Flat Nose over 15.6 gr of H110 at 1689 fps that look like fun!
