New Funnel Recommendations
« on: June 24, 2003, 05:53:17 AM »
I've got an RCBS case filler funnel. The problem with it is that it sits over the case mouth. When using large kernel powders (rods) I frequently have to shake or tap the funnel to get the charge to go through it. Doing this however lets powder escape down the side of the case if I don't hold it right on the case mouth. Is there a funnel out there that fits both in and outside the case mouth? In other words. it would look like two rings looking up from the bottom.

Thanks.

I'm not exactly sure what your describing but I have been using one of the new scale pan/funnel combos. I think its marketed by Lyman. Go to Cabellas web site and search for powder funnel and you'll see what I'm talking about. I love the thing.  KN

Jack,

Here's an old trick. If you slowly pour the long grained powders onto the side of the funnel, rather high up near the top, you can get the powder to swirl around the funnel a time or two as it descends toward the case mouth. It won't bridge or "sit over the case mouth", it will enter the case without problems. Additionally, you'll get far more even powder density within the cases than you will with random tapping- this is how the operators of pressure guns load powder into the cases that are prepared for testing purposes.

I did find that if I aimed at the top and side of the funnel and poured from a greater height I can sometimes fill the case w/o stoppages. I found some funnels at Midway that are built for an individual size neck. Hopefully they will have a larger opening.

Thanks for the response!
