I bought a Win 75 at a yard sale a few years ago. It's the first one I'd handled so I knew little to nothing about it. I've since learned that this model was made in both a target model and as a sporter. The gun I bought has a target stock, however the barrel, action, sights and bolt match the sporter configuration. When I tried to shoot it I learned that the chamber had been peened from dry firing (so much for my expert inspection). I ironed the chamber back into proper shape and then discovered that the gun wouldn't fire. Eventually I found that the problem was the bolt cut in the stock was for a straight bolt; a target bolt. The sporter bolt sweeps to the rear and the stock had to be releaved a little to allow the bolt to close. The rifle shoots nicely. The serial number on the bolt doesn't match number on the reciever. Researching manufacturing dates I found that the bolt number and the reciever number were used in 1942. Intially it would appear that parts from two sporters and a target model were assembled into a rifle, which seems unlikely. The peened breech face couldn't have been done with the barreled action in the target stock since it wouldn't fire. I would appreciate some other ideas on this Frankenrifle
