Parker brothers shotguns?
« on: December 13, 2007, 05:17:12 AM »
Anyone know a good place for info on early Parker brothers blackpowder shotguns?  I have a side by side double barrel number 3601 and a date of November 13th, 1866. No other markings other than some nice decorative markings on the barrels. Anyone out there with some info?

the best place IMO is  the folks at double gun journal
they are IMO the best source of knowledge when it comes to SXS
the can be found over at the double gun shop

ok I broke the gun down, took some pics, hopefully I can post them later. On top pf the barrels along the sightline it says Parker Bros Makers meriden Conn Damascus steel. The barrels off the est of the gun are 20 1/2 inches. The number 3601 shows up in a number of places. On the water table it looks to read ESR or FSR or F9R with the number 3601 underneath it. Ill try the links later also. Anyone with any  extra info now that Ive posted this other info?

parker bros made some fine , Quality SXS  that CAN  be worth some good change even today .

however the thing to remember is  there were lots of companies that made knock off . i have look  some that folks thought were made by Remington   but on close inspection it actually said Remeington or Remingten.
Sometimes like with Manton they would add Bros  after the name .

Again I would post your photos over on the double gun journal.
I would also recommend better photos as those fellas can tell you just by looks  if the sxs is really a parker , who did the engraving , if any screws have been replaced . What looks to be original and what doesn’t ….. as well as a very good idea as to when it was made

They know their stuff and know it well
