It's been a year since I bought my last handi and i thought it was time so I bought the Ultra Hunter in 25-06 and topped it wits a bushnell 3-9x50 scope... Straight out of the box it shot a 5 shot group touching at 100 yds... This will be my new deer rifle if i'm happy with it's performance this weekend... What do you think will be the effective range on deer... right now the scope is splitting hairs at 200 which should be a couple inches high at 100... Shooting Hornady 117 grain sst...

Welcome CC,

Looks like you have a dandy shooter.  With those loads I would think if you can shoot 400 yds the bullet has over a 1/2 ton of enery left.  Here's a link from Chuck Hawks on the 25-06.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/25-06Rem.htm

Quote
With the 120 grain bullet at 2,990 fps the remaining velocity and energy figures are as follows: 2,730 fps and 1,985 ft. lbs. at 100 yards, 2,484 fps and 1,644 ft. lbs. at 200 yards, 2,252 fps and 1,351 ft. lbs. at 300 yards, and 2,032 fps and 1,100 ft. lbs. at 400 yards

Happy shooting,

JerryKo

Congrats on a nice new deer rifle.  In my experience with my 25-06 the limiting factor for effective range on deer is not the rifle but the shooter.  I you can make the shot those Hoornady 117g SST's should do thier part.  I have shot several deer and one moose (brodside 75 yards standing) using good 120g bullits.  A real quarter bore man like Fred could give you more input on the effective range of the 25-06.
