35 whelen/Accubond results on deer
« on: December 14, 2007, 02:36:33 AM »
I finally got my 700 CDL 35 whelen its first deer.  It was a nice doe.  Performance was very nice.  Shot was about 50 yards.  The 35 whelen reload used the Nosler 225 Accubond and was at a measured 2300+ FPS.
Results -  Entrance hole : finger-size hole into ribs just above heart.  Exit hole:  Half-dollar size hole in ribs just behind shoulder.  Deer ran a small circle and dropped about 20 yards from where I shot her.
I could not ask for more. ( A nice set of horns on her head, maybe....)

Nice going...I have always like the 35 Whelen's...I've had a couple of them before...It sounds like a nice gentle load to shoot..

I haven't gotten my hands on any Accubonds yet but I have used the 200 grain RNCL at 2500 fps and recoil is easy enough and on deer performance perfect. In fact identical to what you got with the accubond. My real purpose for the Whelen is to take out Hogzilla using a 250 grain Speer or a Hornady round nose pushed a bit over 2400 fps. The mission will begin the first ful moon in January.
