Here's one for you with superglue
« on: December 14, 2007, 03:44:16 PM »
3 days ago I was playing with my 1 1/2 year old 90 pound yellow lab in the living room.  As he was crouched on his front paws, he suddenly jumped up with his head hitting me in the mouth.  The blow knocked 2 of my front teeth completely sideways in my gum and split my lower lip fairly bad.  Every time I spoke or attempted to eat the 2 teeth moved in the socket with lots of pain.  I live in the bush and won't be able to see a dentist for a while,  So I thought of using superglue to help hold the teeth in the socket without moving in an attempt to heal the gum and maybe even save the teeth.  Well, I cleaned the teeth thoroughly and dried them with a small fan.  Held the lips open with napkins and literally glued these 2 adjacent teeth to the teeth next to them for anchors.  Then I glued the loose teeth together to make a bridge.  Darned if it didn't work.  I don't know for how long but will find out and let everyone know.  It probably would work on a broken tooth to keep the air out too.

That's very interesting, hope I never have to use it though. Good luck with your teeth.

It stayed together overnight and after dinner last night.  At least the pain is gone and I can chew soft stuff and speak without moving the teeth.  I'm going to chew softly for a couple of weeks so the gums heal hopefully to the roots.  I think the superglue will gradually wear off and may have to do another application.  I think from this point forward, I'm definitely going to include superglue in my survival kit and possible bag.  Thanks for the concern and hope you don't have to use it either, but it is a solution if even temporary.

That's probably a wise decision. I know you can seal up cuts with it should the need arise out in the woods.

Super glue is like Duct Tape it about works on anything. I use it all the time fixing broken deer antlers.

A small roll of duct tape has always been in my kit while hunting.  The superglue will join it.

It's been a while with the sugerglue to keep my teeth in place.  It seems to be working.  The teeth are gradually gaining in firmness.  I've had to reapply the glue a couple of times but it is working.  I think I'll be able to save both teeth from having to be pulled.  Hopefully I'll be able to use them for our Christmas dinner.  Happy Holidays.

I am a mechanic by trade, I have used super glue several times now to seal up some pretty bad cuts.It works good for that.I read somewhere once where super glue was developed for the medical field.

I did that the other day to my hand. Its better than stitches and heals faster.

Not Krazy Glue. The cheap Chinese stuff does though.

Well it's been a couple of weeks now using super glue on the teeth.  The teeth are gradually becoming more solid in the gums.  I still use it to keep them that way until they are healed entirely.  The teeth are a bit loose still but not as bad and are sore if they move much from eating.   So, it is still glue time for a while, but they are healing in the gums.

It should just heal right on up.

how are the teeth coming deltecs? Are they solidly and firmly implanted in your gums or have they loosened? This is very interesting and I am also going to include super glue (the original and more expensive Krazy Glue) in my kit at camp and in the truck for emergencies..Thanks for the info and story and I am anxious to get an update from you and hope it has worked out well. I have broken a tooth at camp and wish I had had this available to me at that time. I also had a cap come off one time but have been told just a bit of Vaseline is better than super glue for that. The dentist can most likely save and properly reattach the loosened cap held on by Vaseline (it reportedly fills voids and creates a vacuum to hold the cap on if it starts to slip off) but if you use super glue the cap most likely would be destroyed when he removed it and you would have to pay for a new one, possibly several hundred dollars. This was told to me by the person I went to in Maine on the winter weekend the cap came off, she is my buddies wife, he is a Game Warden and she is a dental technician in north central Maine, a couple of real nice people and great friends....<><....:)

I had 2 teeth really knocked loose.  One is relatively firmly implanted now.  The other is still a bit loose but is healing.  Both teeth were saved using the glue.  I used it for almost 2 months with reapplications of a few drops about every 3-4 days.  I haven't used any glue now for about a month now and both teeth are getting firmer in the gums slowly.  I KNOW it works now and definitely will have a supply for emergencies and in my possible bag.  Thanks for asking.

Thanks for the rapid reply buddy and best of luck with the teeth getting back to normal. Since they have been in for so long now with no infection it looks as if you are on your way to saving them. One of my hunting friends is a dentist and I will run this by him the next time I see him. Also thanks for taking the time to post about it in the effort to helps others here. I am sure your post will in the future help many members here, and even if it only helps one, it was worth it....Thanks for all of us....<><....:)

Well it worked for a while.  Of the 2 teeth knocked loose, one has firmed up almost completely.  Sunday, I lost the one in front.  I was eating a really soggy French dip and bit down on the tooth that came out, nearly breaking another one.  So, back to the dentist, this time for cosmetic bridge, I guess.  That dog is becoming most expensive with the dental bills and cost of buying him, but I don't think I'd want it any other way.  It was my fault that my head was in the wrong position.  I guess for Christmas, I'll ask for just one front tooth.  LOL

If you go to a hobby shop that sells supplies for RC airplanes you can get three grades of CA glue.  Thin, medium and thick.  The thick stuff will bridge small gaps and works really well for wounds and repairs to guns stocks and such.  The stuff comes in bigger containers and is way less expensive than buying it at the hardware store.  You can also get stuff that makes the CA glue let go, handy if you glue your fingers to your nose, and other stuff that makes it set instantly.

Or if you glue your top teeth to your bottom teeth by accident. 8)

Great info on the glue.  Thank you both.
