Encore - How to properly grip?
« on: December 14, 2007, 09:29:38 PM »
Was wondering for those who shoot higher recoiling loads? Do you use both hands on the grip or one on the grip and one holding the forearm?  Holding forearm appears to better balance the gun for me do to the weight.

If you are shooting off the "bench",just let the gun ride the front rest. No hands on the forearm. On a big bore gun,be sure to have yourself positioned where, you are sitting upright as much as possible.Slouching down over the gun, will get you up close, and real personal with the scope :o! Roll your shoulder into the recoil pad,and get a good weld between your cheek, and the comb on the stock,(this will keep the "ring around the eyeball") from occurring. Let the gun "free" recoil, and return the forearm to the same place on the front rest every time. Don't bear down on the gun, trying to keep it from recoiling up,just let it do it's thing, and you will be rewarded with consistency and see what the gun can really do. Hope this helps. Ron

When I read this question it looks like a handgun question to me.  I have Contenders and have been told many times that they are not the same as Encores so I will let others answer, but you may get better answers on the "Handgun" forum.

Two hands just like I'd shoot my handguns. I try to have something to rest the forearm on IE legs, shooting sticks, tree stand cross member, etc. That is how i do it in the field. If I'm just shooting for enjoyment I'm using a sand bag rest...
