I got one on sale last year for $219. Didnt hunt w/ it much last year didnt have time to work up a load. This year I did & what a great shooting rifle. Got 2 does yesterday at abot 80 yard each through the brush with 100gr of pyrodex & a 348gr aerotip powerbelt. It shoots MOA at 100 yards with this load & will put the bullet right where it needs to go while hunting in the brush where the windows are small. Anyone else have an opinion on this rifle please share your loads. Also passed a 4 pt yesterday & saw 8 total. Mike

I love the one I have. Where I shoot most of the time is limited to 75 yds, and it will cut one hole at that range with a couple of different loads. It's one of the most accurate rifles I have.

I have one that I got new last fall. 200gr Shockwave with 100grs of FFg 777 is my whitetail load. Took 6 deer with it last year.

1.5 on average. Best have been in the 3/4" range, worst without a called flyer was 2". Admittedly I need more range time with the gun, I think it's capable of 1" on a regular basis.

I have a SS Disc Elite .50 caliber. It wears and old Leupold Vari-X II 3-9X40. With 110 grains of Triple 7 2F and 200 grain Shockwaves it hits the chrony screens at 2050 fps and puts five shots into .75 inch or less at 100 yards.....as long as I swab between shots. 18 deer with 18 shots, at distances of 5 yards to 211 yards.....all were complete pass throughs. I have my ballistic drop chart on the side of the buttstock.

Here is the first buck from this past season....5 yards.

Here is buck number two, 20,5 inches wide, 9 points, at 135 yards.

One of the best purchases I ever made!!

Very nice! Have you ever slugged the bore on your Elite? I just bought 3 Disc Extremes with the Master Hunter Cryogenic fluted barrels on them. I am looking to shoot that same load out of one, care to share your ballistic drop chart so I will have an idea of what I could expect?

I slugged the barrels, and all 3 were different. Was just curious if you knew the exact bore diameter of yours? Whatever it is, it is definitely the exact right size for that load.

Busta,

You need the ballistic coefficient of your bullet. BC's vary according to velocity, so you need a chronograph as well. When you find the magic potion for good groups, chronograph it. Shoot it at 100 and if possible, chronograph it at 100 as well. Then shoot 200. Go to a site such as biggameinfo.com and click on the ballistics calculator. Plug in your numbers for the distance you wish to have the load zeroed for and it will calculate for you. For me the 200 grain Shockwave at +3" at 100 yards puts me about 9 inches low at 225. Another necessity is a lazer rangefinder for field use.

I have not slugged the bore of my rifle. It did very well with 250 grain Shockwaves, but shines like a new penny with the 200 Shockwaves......makes me very happy!

I got a blued 50 caliber disc elite last week. I have only had it out once and I shot the 200 grain shockwave in the blue sabot with 100 grains of 2f 777. I am really happy with my results so far. Later today I am going to try slugging the bores of that and my fluted disc extreme and see what I come up with.

I have a .50cal. blue/synthetic disc elite which I bought on clearance. I load it with saboted 250 grain Barnes bullets over 100 grains of 777 and it is a dream to shoot. It will shoot MOA at 100 yards with no problems. I have scoped it with a Bausch& Lomb Elite 3x9x40 Firefly scope. As soon as I take a nice buck with it, I'm gonna give it to my grandson as his deer rifle.

Knight made a big mistake by discontinuing the Elite Rifle.
But I also think they erred by going to the .52 caliber as well.

I shoot the 348 gr. powerbelt aero tip & it is devistating on game. I hunt mostly in heavy woods where 100 yards is rare but it did do MOA at 100. Mike

I have a pair of these guns (.45 and .50) and it was a little frustrating finding a load that the .50 caliber shot consistantly. I settled on 110 gr of BH209 and the Hornady 350 gr FPB. This combo will shoot 1.5 MOA out to 200 yards. It is my back up elk gun.

The .45 caliber shoots decent with 120 gr of BH209 and the 200 gr Shockwave in a brown sabot. It is shooting MOA at 200 yards. I would like to work up some sabotless loads for the .45 cal and make it a elk gun also.

AJ... I know I'm late to the party .

I haven't found a BH209 load that my .50 Elite likes yet.

Shoots lights out with 777. I'm guessing I need a very tight loading bullet/sabot combination; and a hot primer like Fed209A.

I have a new .45 Elite on the way. I got some 200 Shockwaves to try (with green sabots). I know MMP makes a tan sabot for the 45. I heard of brown 45/40 sabots .. Know who makes them and where did you get them ?

Although I do not own an elite, I do have a .45 cal Wolverine 209 with a 26" tapered barrel that really likes 110 gr BH209 and 200 gr SST/SW in the light blue Harvester .45/.40 cal sabot. Try some of these sabots, I think they will do well for you in your .45 cal.

I think that wolverine that came without open sights is kind of a predecessor to the elites Reese. Does that gun have the cantilevered lug like the elites?

You are correct. The .45 cal Wolverine 209 did not come with open sites. They were advertised in Knights 2003 catalog only. It does not have the cantilevered lug but tapers quickly right after the forearm. If I do my part from a solid bench, it will do MOA at 100 and 200 yards with that load. I shot four deer with it this season and have been very pleased with the results. I should be satisfied right there but I am looking for a .45 cal SS Elite.

It seems the .45 Elites are getting scarce... I got the last one from Natchez and overpaid. Here's two I found on Gun Broker, cheaper than I paid.

They are listed as Disc Extremes, but the pics and stock nos. are definitely Elites:

As you can see from the photo I am using the FPJ. Using 110 gr BH209 (volume), I have had some (1 out of about every 10 or so) primers (Win 209) come out of the primer cups but they have all been found in the action. I plan to test Federal 209A's to see how they do using 110 gr BH209.

When I was testing 120 gr BH209, I had one FPJ recock the plunger. I went down to 110 gr BH209 and have not had that happen since.

Well, I finally picked up a NIB .45 cal Elite. Settled for blued barrel but the price was right.

Now the fun begins with figuring out what it likes to shoot best.

I pick up mine in 2 weeks. Already have a NFPJ conversion for it. I'll be trying 200 XTP's, 200 SW's, and 195 Barnes MZ's in it. Guys have reported good results with them.

The elite I have is an early one and it uses the allen screw to keep the bolt in place. Anyone know if the quick release comes in a DIY kit?

No... you have to send the barreled action to Knight. I just contacted them, as I need to have it done for my .45 too. They said they will install it for $20. I'll probably wait til mid-summer, when I'm not shooting to have it done.

I suggest you give Knight a call first.
