More crap from WOLF
« on: December 15, 2007, 12:59:57 PM »
went to a gun show last week and decided to give Wolf another try.
more wasted money...
It is 7.62x39 in a black and yellow box with a barcode number of
4561176241 there is no lot number.
I took a round out of the box and while handling it I heard
a click. I shook it and it rattled. the lead core was that loose
in the bullet. I pulled a bullet and it is a hollow base hollow point. no way
that it would keep out moisture - powder is probably already degraded.
I would honestly be afraid to fire it with it being a hollow point.
may blow the core out of the bullet jacket and leave the jacket in the bore.
I was hoping quality had improved but this was not the case.
Every round in the box was the same.

I posted in another thread about Large Rifle primers I bought from Wolf. Total Junk. Out of round enough that they would not seat properly.
Wolf did react very quickly to my e-mail and promised me that they would replace the primers with good ones.
We will wait and see.

 >:(I had some .308 Wolf blow up a $2000.00 rifle a few years back. On other occasions I have had to drive stuck "Wolf" pistol bullets from various pistol barrels. IMO the stuff is junk and is dangerous to shooter and gun alike.

I have never had a problem with wolf ammo yet, thats all i shoot.  I have shot the older dirty wolf ammo too.  I mainly shoot the 9mm mak, 9mm luger, 45acp, 7,62x39,  7,62x54r
and the 223 wolf ammo and never had one problem.  I just went thru some wolf 9mm mak and 45acp just a few weeks ago without a problem.

I started buying the priv partizan ammo too they also manufacture ammo for the wolf gold line too beisdes others.  The priv partizan (yugo) brass is great for reloading too.

As far as primers I only us ours that are made in the USA. (CCI)  In your military semi auto we should be using the thicker walled primers so slam fires won't occur.  I use the CCI #34 in all my military applications bolt action and in semi auto's so a mix up can't happen just to be safe. I also worry if i pass on one of my family members won't mix things up too so everything is the samey same.  I know these primers can get expensive so shop around there are some better prices out there for the same brand of primers it pays off to surf for better prices.

I just checked my Wolf Military Classics 7.62 X 39 in HP and they are tight.  I use Wolf in my SKS and AK.  I also did alright using their .45 ACP in my new RIA 1911 this last Summer.  In general I don't use Wolf in my handguns because it is soooo sooty.  Hate having to field strip em' and get in there with the Q-tip.  In the AK and SKS, no problem.  Have not thought much of the new Russian ammo in 7.65 X 54 for my Mosins, prefer the surplus stuff.

How did the .308 blow up a $2,000.00 rifle, overload, split case or other reason?

I play around with a couple of customized 10/22's and a Hvy. Bbl. Savage MarkII in a Ross thumbhole stock. After an article about how accurate Wolf Target was I decided to try some. Wolf at $4.50 a box-.6-.7" at 50 yds.  Win. T-22 at $2.50 a box- .4-.5".   Rem. Golden Bullet bulk pack at $9.63 per 525- .7-.8".  I know .22's are picky about ammo but there is hardly any difference in these rifles. I've never tried any of their centerfire stuff since I handload.

The case blew out at the extractor groove about 2/3 of its circumference. The gas blew the mag walls out and ejected its contents out the bottom. It also eroded the finish from the  bolt and bolt carrier. It was not a firearm issue, rather the cause was substandard ammunition. I have since had the rifle repaired to shootable condition although it is no longer as issued and factory original.
It is an FN FAL purchased brand new in the late 1970s.

I wouldn't lump all of Wolf's ammo. together.

I haven't been impressed with their pistol ammo. but I use their Gold Line for hunting and like it quite a bit.
I've put at least 120 rds. of their 7.5 X55 Swiss through my K-31 with great results, both on paper and game.

Wolf gold is fine ammo, Ive shot some before and been impressed. I believe it to be loaded by Privi Partizan in Serbia. It is the steel cased Russian ammo I have no use for.

The yellow boxed wolf stuff seems to get a bad rep everywhere I go....I avoid it like the plague.
I've used the black box x39 on multiple occasions (buying by case) and never had a single problem/misfire/etc. Dirty, though.

I use Wolf a lot in 9x18 (makarov) as well. Again, no issues.

I know this doesn't help the thread, but I thought I'd share my experiences.
