17 hmr on squirrel and rabbit
« on: December 15, 2007, 05:16:17 PM »
I just got one and am hoping to site in on Monday and do some hunting.  I know this round is tough on meat and I need to hold for head shots.  Do I want the fmj round or the v-shock.

I use the 20 grain XTP in Hornady ammo and yes try to get above the neck shots. I also bought some 17 grain V-shock ammo can't wait to use it. Good luck ;D

I love my 17hmr. Killed many squirrel and rabbit in front of the dog.  Surprisingly I don't think that I've destroyed that much meat than I would have with a .22 but it definitely makes an impact. wow.  can't save the front legs whether you hit with the .22 or .17  I use the 17 grain bullet for the lack of ricochet when hunting rabbits.  You will love it
