Anybody have a good home made sight pusher?
« on: December 18, 2007, 08:19:49 AM »
Changing the front sight on my BC and need a good idea for a sight pusher. The one I have won't fit around the big barrel on the BC so I thought I'd ask if anyone had a successful good idea with a modified C-clamp or something or someplace to purchase one that will work. The one Brownells shows will not work with the big round barrel on the BC. ??? F50

Uh, if it was me I'd try a sharp rap or two with a WOODEN dial rod. I've used brass rod's in the past on some thing's and they WILL leave a mark!!! You must have a good solid rest with no give for best result's. Good luck.

If there was a good sight pusher for dovetailed sights other than those in ramps, I woulda had one long ago, best I can offer and what I've used is the TOTW brass sight drift. It will leave brass residue, but nothing that a good copper solvent won't remove. ;) The key to moving the 17A sight is to make sure the barrel is on a solid surface so each hit isn't absorbed by the backer, the sight can be a real bugger to move initially, they use loctite or something on it, it's been discussed more than once. :-\

I use the tool tim posted I have some extra 3/8 brass rods and I will grind the tip square and a padded vise is a must and I think looking from the rear of the barrel it has to from left to right
