Legalities - Licenses Needed To Trap In Indiana?
« on: December 18, 2007, 04:04:59 PM »
Hello,

Several years back I found an old trap on our property.  I was in my early teens at the time.

I read that in order to trap, one had to have a hunting or trapping license.  I had a hunting license so it was good.

I never caught anything; wasn't really into it.

I bought a leg hold today and am finding conflicting reports:  Some say that I can trap on my land regardless.  Some say I have to have a trapping license (which I do not have).  Other internet sources say that I can use my hunting license.

What's the story on this?

Thanks,

Josh <><

Josh, your trap is referred to as a foothold trap--leghold is ancient terminology--in the future, when posting--please refer to them as footholds.
Call your department of natural resources for the correct answers on your license needs.
