Welcome Boss! That would be a wise choice, I won't shoot any high pressure barrels on my older frames, one of those is an RMEF 35 Whelen, shooting top loads in it may not cause catastrophic failure, but I'd hate to ruin a good frame that works fine with lower pressure loadings. That frame could fail anytime with the wrong loads used on it, they didn't use the same heat treatment that are used on post '99 frames.
Depending on how hot you're loading it, the .500 Nitro 3" is good for 2100fps with 500gr bullets. I don't even know if I'd use it on a late frame, I've tested a .300 Winchester Short Magnum barrel on a late frame and it didn't do well, it didn't fail, but the case head thrust was too much for the action, each shot would open a temporary gap between the barrel and standing breech.
