I again beg to differ on the total casualties for the Iraq and Afghanistan (corrected from a previous post from Iran) as being higher than Vietnam casualties.  The total casualties from all categories ( KIA, MIA, Wounded) in Vietnam were over 365,000 vets, not including any post traumatic syndromes, or later medical conditions.  According to the last known figures reported as of 12/21/07 there were 3897 KIA and 89,031 MEDICAL in Iran, of which over 60,000 is non hostile injuries due illness or injury. This figure was not included in the Vietnam stats.  So actual wounded was approx 30,000.  Now if my math is correct and not using a base 2 system, my addition of casualties for Iraq alone totals under 39,000 troops to compare with Vietnam's casualty list.  Afghanistan has total casualties of 2308 as of 12/10/07.  The sum total casualty list of approximately 41,308 since the wars or actions have begun.  The difference in casualties then amounts to Vietnam having over 320,000 more casualties than our current situation.  I think this is substantial and in no way warrant comments that the total casualties exceed Vietnam.  And I did look at the Harring Report or should I say herring as in red.  The report is written by a DOMESTIC Intelligence Reporter not DOD, who supposedly has access to actual casualty lists.  If his claims were true don't you think the liberal media or the Demoncratic candidates would jump all over these so called actual figures.  BTW, Merry Christmass and Happy New Year and I do like reading your posts.  There are some things to think about in your posts.
Greg lost his battle with cancer last week on April 2nd 2009. RIP Greg. We miss you.

Back whn I was in high school..several  decades ago, I learned a little poem. Penned by Hughes Mearns in 1899..it is entitled ANTIGONISH,. and I believ it eftly fits the conspiracy theorists of today :

                                Antigonish

As I was walking on the stair,
                    I met a man that wasn't there .

                 He wasn't there again today,
                    I wish, I wish..he'd go away..

                                   Hughes Mearns;  1899

I am a bit surprised that having mentioned that Ron Paul, as with the other candidates, has some good stands and some that are not so good...that I should arouse anyone's ire !
Even more surprised that when I suggest that we all must swallow some things that we may not like..and vote for the one that is BEST qualified..that I should be accused of simply voting for the lesser of two evils, because although one may be worlds better than the other..neither one is perfect .

Let's look at this a slightly different way, simply to clarify:

  1) Rudy Guliani                       8) Hillary Clinton
  2) John McCain                      9) John Edwards
  3) Ron Paul                          10) Barak Hussein Obama
  4) Mitt Romney                    11) Dennis Kucinich
  5) Mike Huckabee                 12) Joe Biden
  6) Fred Thompson                13) Bill Richardson
  7)Duncan Hunter                  14) Chris Dodd

...Please select ONE candidate that never has lied, never has made a mistake, is absolutely correct in every stance, never broken an election promise,
always remembers birthdays, anniversaries and can recite the Constitution flawlessly from one end to the other.

...and THEN return to this post with the name of that candidate .

You will note please; I did not even require that he/she had recently been seen walking upon water..

BTW: I didn't plan that smiley face in the cheap Hollyweird disguise in front of Hillary's name..but it looks good there..LOL

Guys, it's like this. There isn't a candidate out there on the Republican ticket that any of us would vote for if we could see and hear what they really thought. They have to sound like they think like we do so that we will vote for them. Since they don't believe what they are saying they slip up sometimes. They can't remember what lie they told last time. As it stands right now I have no one to vote for. To me a Liberal Republican is just as bad as a Liberal Democrat. Gulianni and the rest of the RINOs are just as bad as Hitlary and the other Socialists are. The difference is the screwing we will receive will be at slightly different pace. It's to the point voting for the lesser of two evils isn't even possible any more. None of them are fit to run a third world sh#* hole, much less what used to be the greatest country on earth. With the right leader this COULD be the greatest country again, but the right leader can't and won't be found anywhere in this bunch.

Before the slams at my opinion begin, let me say this. I served ten years in the U.S. Army Infantry with 5 years in Germany in the 80s before the wall came down. I got out as a E-5 Sargent and am VERY proud of my service and would gladly do it again. However much I love my country I despise the federal government (ain't real wild about the state and local folks either). What we have is so far  from what the founding fathers envisioned it ain't funny. People say to change it at the ballot box. That won't happen if we continue to get crap like this to vote for.                 It's like the old computer term GIGO (garbage in, garbage out). I have a feeling it's going to get alot worse before it gets any better.

TnJim;

You mentioned that the Republican ticket has less than 100 % pure candidates....but then, I assume you didn't mention the Democrats because they are
utterly hopeless when held to the same yardstick...LOL

Here's a website I check now and then to keep things in perspective:

http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/

From what I read, the locals over in Iraq, not just moslems, have a "dickering mentality", everyone brags up what they are selling, and no "truth in advertising" over there. That carries over so they are used to hearing lies from everyone. They had to experience Sharia law for themselves because they just could not believe people who were saying how bad and stupid it was.

Sounds to me like they need a bit of an SSS program regarding some of those Imams.

The more I read and try and find out about these guys, the more disappointed I am in all of them. I don't like RP's idea of getting rid of the CIA and pulling ALL of our troops home. Every time I hear Huckabee talking about illegal aliens and how we're suppose to teach their kids along side ours in the school system, wrong. Now that Tancredo has dropped, the only one with a border policy is Duncan Hunter, and he's so far down in the polls, it's likely he'll drop out pretty soon. Giuliani might as well be on the Democratic ticket. Between Thompson and Romney, neither one of them are worth getting excited about. Sad days ahead!! gypsyman

I couldn't agree more!! Duncan Hunter would be my pick, but he has no chance. I like Tancredo & we all know his immigration stance. But it is over for them & ALL of the others are clowns in my view.

I think this one fits today, Ironglow!
THE GHOST FROM VALLEY FORGE

I had a dream the other night I didn't understand, A figure walking through the mist, with flintlock in his hand. His clothes were torn and dirty, as he stood there by my bed, He took off his three-cornered hat, and speaking low he said:

We fought a revolution to secure our liberty. We wrote the Constitution, as a shield from tyranny. For future generations, this legacy we gave, In this, the land of the free and home of the brave.

The freedom we secured for you, we hoped you'd always keep, But tyrants labored endlessly while your parents were asleep. Your freedom gone - your courage lost - you're no more than a slave, In this, the land of the free and the home of the brave.

You buy permits to travel, and permits to own a gun, permits to start a business, or to build a place for one. On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent, Although you have no voice in choosing how the money's spent.

Your children must attend a school that doesn't educate, Your moral values can't be taught, according to the state. You read about the current "news" in a very biased press, You pay a tax you do not owe, to please the IRS.

Your money is no longer made of silver or of gold, You trade your wealth for paper, so life can be controlled. You pay for crimes that make our Nation turn from God to shame. You've taken Satan's number, as you've traded in your name.

You've given government control to those who do you harm, So they can padlock churches, and steal the family farm. And keep our country deep in debt, put men of God in jail, Harass your fellow countryman while corrupted courts prevail.

Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oath they're sworn, Your daughters visit doctors so children won't be born. Your leaders ship artillery and guns to foreign shores, And send your sons to slaughter, fighting other people's wars.

Can you regain your Freedom for which we fought and died? Or don't you have the courage, or the faith to stand with pride? Are there no more values for which you'll fight to save? Or do you wish your children live in fear and be a slave?

Sons of the Republic, arise and take a stand! Defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land! Preserve our Republic, and each God-given right! And pray to God to keep the torch of freedom burning bright!

As I awoke he vanished, in the mist from whence he came, His words were true, we are not free, and we have ourselves to blame. For even now as tyrants trample each God-given right, We only watch and tremble -- too afraid to stand and fight. If he stood by your bedside in a dream while you're asleep, and wonder what remains of your right he fought to keep. What would be your answer if he called out from the grave? Is this still the land of the free and home of the brave?

T, your reply reinforces my point.

Denying the "Liberal point of view" is not denying free speech.  Though you do not represent the "Liberal point of view" you still "speak"!  Nobody has drug you off in the middle of the night.  You still have your head attached.  Your family knows where you are.  America is not the Bogyman, the resident evil...

Dee, don't think I'm directing any thing at you.  I do not care who you like or if you like RP at all.  My point is the way "some" praise him and carry on about him.  That's all.

"Ask not what your Country can do for you, but what you can do for your Country".   Interesting that a  Dem said that!  Where did THOSE Dem's go?
