new scope mount for handi-rifle
« on: December 20, 2007, 06:34:32 AM »
hey guys, i live in NC and there is a machine shop right up the road from me that has started making scope mounts for all kind of rifles including the HANDI-RIFLE . what impressed me about this mount is its all one piece, these mounts are machined from a solid block of air craft aluminum then are x-rayed for any flaws . here is the web site (WWW.DEDNUTZ.COM) I HAVE ONE ON THE WAY , I'LL GIVE A REPORT AFTER IT ARRIVES.

Thanks, but they've been announced a few times, their link is in the FAQs and Help sticky with the mounts info.

Not for me, I don't care for high rings, that's all they offer. :(

Tim, do you think this one piece mount would hold up to the recoil of the 500S&W? thanks.

It should work fine, but I don't have a problem with the factory mount and Leupold PRWs on mine, great rings for about half the cost. ;)

OK guys i know i'm a little behind on this scope mount (thanks for the heads up Tim) but i got mine in the mail today and just mounted it on my .280, i am impressed ! the fit & finish of this mount is excellent , it fits the gun perfect , and looks real good on the gun. it is a high mount but seems to be no higher than the stock scope base & rings i was using . its high enough for the hammer to clear the eye piece of your scope. i see another one in the near future for my .357 ................MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL YOU GUYS !

They are very good rings. If they were a little lower they would be perfect. Its on reason I don't use them much or tally one piece's.

They work good on a 50mm objective height though.

You don't need high rings to mount a 50mm scope on a Handi, medium or even some lows will work, no hammer work needed either with the right scope, medium Burris Sig Zees are .270" tall, about the same as some low rings!!

I didn't know that. I normally get med rings for everything unless its a turkey gun. Now Ill know which rings to get for that 3-9x50 on the new Handi I put on order in 300win mag.

A 3-9x50 won't likely have an AO, so it'll have a smaller objective, the big headache is always hammer clearance. ;)

I like the turret adjustment better anyways just because its easier to reach in hunting situations. Your hammer clearance looks very minimum on that rifle. Did you use the hammer extension?

thanks for showing the picture Tim , personally i just think this is a better mount , but that's my opinion , and everyone has one. i like a little more clearance on my scope than the gun in the picture , you are stuck with the eye relief where it is on that setup , move the scope back any and the hammer will hit the power ring , forward and it will hit the eye piece. i'll  raise it up a bit to avoid this problem. once again this is my opinon .

OH ,by the way,  took my .357 on its first hunt this year . five minutes after light, a 130 pound spike buck fell victim to a 158 grain Magtech SJSP . 40 yard shot through both lungs . left a nice exit hole , about the size of a half dollar.

It looks to me as if there would be very little fore and aft latitude to position the scope for proper eye relief. It looks as though the saddle would just fit between the rings and you'd just have to live with it where it falls. I never know just which scope I will end up with, in so far as the length and eye relief distances and thus I prefer a long base with lots of cross slots for the rings to give me options in positioning the scope.

I've been there, done that with the CVA Optima Elite and Warne bases, that was a bad choice, no fun. :'(
