Savage or IZH

I located two combination guns today.  One is a Savage 24V in 222 Rem and 20 gauge 85% coonditoin for $295 and the other is an IZH94 12/.223 at about 95% for $350.

I plan on using the gun for varmint hunting but am concerned that the 20 may be too light for even close up coyote hunting.  Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

  My biggest concern would be that both bbls won't shoot to the sights!  I've yet to see a Savage that would, and with the IZH i think it will be hit or miss too...

  I just HATE having to aim over here to hit over there...  That's unacceptable to me...

I gather you arent too impressed with either gun?  I was going to use the gun for varmint hunting and thought that the utility in having two calibers would be an asset...but...I hate missing!  I may just save my pennies and buy a bolt action rifle and forego that idea.

  Get a Valmet 412 combo bbl., deadly accurate and you can regulate the rifle bbl for what ever ammo you want to shoot.  They come in a lot of different cal's with a 12 ga...

The prices are very good for both guns.  IMO both would be excellent for coyote hunting.  I would lean to the 12 ga for raccoons.

Before purchasing either I would at a minimum put a laser sight in both the shotgun and rifle to check the windage, which is not adjustable on the Baikal/Spartan.  I believe windage is not adjustable on the Savage.  If you can shoot them prior to purchase even better.

I have had a Baikal 12/30-06 which was fantastic (both barrels were regulated correctly) and a Spartan 12/223 which had 6.5 inches of delta in the windage at 50 yards. 

Since that time I moved to the Valmet mainly because both the windage and elevation are adjustable and I prefer to have one platform.  If the Spartan 12/223 was regulated correctly I doubt I would have gone with the Valmet.

FYI the most recent issue of "Successful Hunter" ( Wolfe Publishing) has an article about Bobcat & Coyote hunting. The authors' favorite gun is the Savage .222/ 20 Ga. Combo. He uses an illuminated low-power Leupold illuminated variable, for night shooting. He does mention that of the 4 he has used, 3 needed the shotgun barrel tweeked to shoot to same point of aim as rifle barrel. He says it is easy to do, but didn't mention how.
