when i am shooting repetitively my barrel on my 22 mag heats up and affects accuracy. is there any way to cool your barrel down, other than letting it sit and cool itself down, and without upgrading to a heavy barrel?

Well in the old days they would dip the barrel in water to cool it off something I do not reccomend today. What is your hurry? Take several guns and shoot in stages ( alternating) then you will be shooting all the time but giving your guns time to cool off while you are shooting the others. Jim

my savage 93 22 mag is my only rifle I have that works. I am more of a shotgun person myself, and my only rifle was a 22 lr (which is a double barrel .410/22 savage) but i gotta get it fixed. my brother sold me his 22 mag, i figured it was worth the $100 price tag, and got a 223, and i'm just now getting mine zeroed. all the ammo i have tried just doesnt like to group very well, except for the CCI HP he gave me, but i ran out before i could get it zeroed. i have been tryin to see how all my ammo groups, but i can only get so far testing em all out before my barrel heats up and the sun goes down. I'm gonna pick up a box of Super X 22WMR from wal mart next time i go, He said he could get 1/4- 1/2 inch groups consistently

Jim is right. If you want good accuracy don't get in a hurry. You will actually save time in the long run by having more uniform groups with the slightly fewer groups that you do shoot. The magnum gets a bit hotter than the 22lr. does.
