Veterans stabbed by the NRA Turncoats!!!!!!!!!!
« on: December 22, 2007, 05:52:24 PM »
The Veterans Disarmament Act passed the Senate and the House
-- both times WITHOUT A RECORDED VOTE. That is, the bill
passed by Unanimous Consent, and was then transmitted to the White House.

The Veterans Disarmament Act has passed with the help of the NRA! The NRA has totally failed us here ! If I was considering which PRO-Gun organization to join now, It would not be the NRA! Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox have let us down and they need to go! They have sold out to Chuck Schumer and we have let them do it!
The bill is being praised by the National Rifle Association and the Brady Campaign. What the bill does is to lock in -- statutorily -huge numbers of additional law-abiding Americans who will now be denied the right to own a firearm.

The efforts begun during the Clinton Presidency to disarm battle-scarred veterans -- promoted by the Brady Anti-Gun Campaign -- is illegal and morally reprehensible but Section 101(c)(1)(C) of this bill, HR 2640, would rubber-stamp those illegal actions. Over 140,000 law-abiding veterans would be statutorily barred from possessing firearms.

Organizations opposing this terrible legislation included The American Legion, Gun Owners of America and The Order of The Purple Heart!

If you are asked by new shooters if they should join the NRA, say "NO!!" Tell them to join the Gun Owners of America or any other Pro-Gun organization.

I've been telling you guys that for years. LaPierre has ruined the NRA it used to be pro gun now it's just pro LaPierre and his cronies. It has become one of the worst enemies of gun owners in my opinion.

Just like the politico's they rub shoulders with, the NRA has lost touch with it's constituency. My membership comes up for renewal soon. I'll be thinking long and hard on who I want to support...

I've managed large organizations, both private industrial firms and public agencies, and therefore I know that having everyone happy with the management is impossible.  I don't expect it's much different for the NRA.  For gun rights, I work hard to be part of the solution.  I don't have much time for gun owners who sit in a corner to complain and mutter, especially as we begin a watershed political year.  The other day someone said that shooters who criticize the NRA are merely feeling guilty that they send no money to the cause, and criticizing the NRA gives them some sort of cover or excuse, at least in their own minds.   I attend political fundraisers and let candidates know I am a single-issue voter.  I make hundreds of phone calls on behalf of pro-gun candidates.  I go door-to-door weekend after weekend for political candidates when I would rather be hunting.  I don't do enough to promote shooting among young people but I do some.  I help with shooting events such as the annual shoot we put on for the state legislature.  I give money to pro-gun candidates, and I bring them to meet shooters at our clubs.  I give money to the NRA.  Mainstream candidates have so much money today that donating time to the campaigns is more effective than donating money but I do both. I do not agree with the interpretation of the legislation as expressed in this thread, but even if I did I would now feel that for the 2008 elections I had no alternative to the NRA.  In the longer term, if I saw no alternative to the NRA then I would work to bring change to that organization rather than work to build another gun rights outfit.   My belief is that Republicans will not regain Congress, and therefore we have to have enough of the Democrats in Congress believe that for them the gun issue is radio-active so that if we lose the White House to an anti-gun Democrat or Republican we can stop Congress from enacting legislation that will lead to gun confiscation of the sort seen in Canada, Australia and other countries.  Gun owners need to pull together and to set aside internal bickering.  Thank you for your time.  Happy New Year.

This is an open question for all you who have bashed the NRA saying that they have turned their backs on us, that their officers have sold out to the gun grabbers, et., etc.

Every year the NRA dedicates an issue of each of their magazines to the election of new officers, complete with biographies of each candidate and a voting ballet complete with a postage paid envelope.  How many of you who are bitching about the NRA ever bothered to read the biographies and vote for new officers?

If you haven't taken the time to research the players and cast your vote shut up!

Like thxmrgarand, I don't have much time for gun owners who sit in the corner and complain and mutter.
The NRA has done more to promote the shooting sports and protect our 2nd amendment over the years than all of the other gun rights organizations combined.  Do I always agree 100% with everything the NRA does.  No, nor do I agree with everything GBO management says and does, or my Church leaders, or my own family for that matter. But I still support them, and you won't hear me talking them down or see me leaving them.   A divided house can't stand.  With this being a watershed political year we need to stick together more than ever.

Your attitude is supposed to inspire togetherness?Reading the NRAs take on the players isnt doing research, its just buying into their BS,do some independent research on some of the people the NRA is backing and then preach about "promoting the shooting sports".

right on Brett !   The NRA is NOT perfect, yet we need to support the strongest pro gun association we have. I know an avid gun owner who would not renew his NRA membership because the NRA screwed up his magazine subscription. Perhaps the brady campaign could do a better job of keeping their subscriptions in order.

wake up.  did you not read the first post here?  care to address that?  other than giving the nra a pass by saying "they aint perfect".  of all the people that get screwed, the ones we as american people should defend with the most vigor is the veterans.   without them,  this country would have imploded long ago and we all owe them.   instead, you give the nra a pass.
with this many sheeple, it is no wonder we a spiraling down  the tubes as fast as we are.

The NRA is filing a brief in the DC gun ban case. Is any other organization doing that? I don;t know. How do you suggest we fight for our right to bear arms? What organization would unite us and who do you think we should support? Maybe you are right. Perhaps I will reconsider my NRA membership after the election. I am open to suggestions.

I checked out some websites on the Gun Owners of America. While I am not at this critical time ready to cancel my NRA membership, the GOA had some interesting information about candidate ratings by them vs NRA. I understand the GOA is the second largest 2nd amendment supporter next to the NRA. Perhaps this would be a good org to join. Can anyone vouch for their legitimacy?

Yes indeed unlike the NRA they are the REAL DEAL a no compromise pro gun organization who's sole reason for being is to fight for our Second Amendment Rights. For them it's not just a side line issue like the NRA.

I am a member of NRA, and have written them several times voicing both my agreement and disagreement with their policies and stands on certain issues. I am looking very hard at Gun Owners of America and will almost certainly join. Even if they aren't perfect, and neither one is, being involved in any responsible pro- 2nd Amendment groups is important to me.
