I have a 12.5 inch MGM encore barrel in 6.8.  I haven't had a chance to hunt with it but it shoots pretty good.  I had several loads shoot sub MOA.  My barrel has a preference for Sierra pro hunters in 110 or 130 grain.  Do you reload?  If not I don't know if you would be happy with the 6.8.  There is only a handful of factory loads available and they are hard to come by in some places.   I bought mine with the intention of reloading all my ammo.  I did buy 2 boxes of Hornady factory ammo but I haven't got around to shooting it yet.  If you do reload its a fun little caliber.  Big enough to take deer sized game but small enough to keep recoil down.

If you are looking to extend your range a 7-08 Encore should work fine as would a .260! If you are looking for a heavier game round a .375JDJ is a great round . If you just HAVE to get the 6.8 as a Novelty barrel than that's fine to! I have several overlapping barrels and enjoy each.

I have a 15" 6.8 spc, shoots 3/4" groups and mild recoil, I really enjoy the round, haven't had a shot at a deer yet, maybe today!

I have a 23 inch contender that I have killed 3 deer with. I use 110 hornady V Max it does a great job on deer. I also have a 12 inch MGM that shoots real good. Had some Scope Troubles with it during Deer season. Maybe next year.
Real fun to shoot.Seems to like H322 powder.

I'll have to second Preacherman as I to have the 23" barrel and it shoots the factory ammo close to an inch. Dave
Do you speak German? Well I don't speak Spanish so maybe you'd better learn English.

Make that a third for the preacher man. I have a 12" MGM that shoots Hornady 100sp and H322 very well also. No deer yet but still late season for does and spikes.

While it seems that plenty of people like the 6.8 Rem., I guess I'm one of those that haven't been drawn to that cartridge.

I'd prefer to use bullets that are a bit heavier than the 110's and 115's that are being loaded in this round.  I know that heavier .277 bullets are available, but the little 6.8 may not have enough horsepower to push them fast enough; don't know....

In a Contender, I personally would take a long look at the 7-30 Waters.  I've really enjoyed that round in the past, and may get another very soon.
