243 cut
« on: December 23, 2007, 01:56:52 PM »
OK guys I'm going to try to use good grammar so here we go. I read a few posts  on cutting a barrel . i have a 24in  ultra 243 bull.   I would like to cut it to 18.5in  but the ? I have is with the chamber. The barrel would be shorter than 18.5in. IT would be around 15in  after you deduct the chamber . Now with what I've read about losing velocity.  I'm wondering about if this gun would still be a good shooter out to 300 yards let me know what you all think.   Hope that was better  ;D

don't see why not as long as you have a goo crown  the shorter barrel is stiffer and the velocity loss is negligible.  it will be louder . Have a smith cut and crown it

Before you cut that beautiful bull barrel that's probably a great shooter.....trade it to me for my 22" standard .243 barrel.    Then you can hack up a not so pretty 22" standard contour and not have to feel bad about it.     ;) ;D

i have a standard 243 thanks anyway.  i called a gunsmith he said 35 to cut crown and  re blue.  sounds good to me.  maybe i should cut the standard n leave the bull the way it is.  but then ill have to have it fit also.  i thought it fit my handi but when i put the ultra stock on my handi and  put the standard 243 on it.  it moves from side to side a little bit did not do this with plastic forarm and shot great . ill have to really think about this before i cut a perfectly good barrel. im looking to get rid of a couple of pounds and i like short barrels.  the t/c makes super 14 barrels so if you think about it the barrel is only 11 .5 after you deduct the 2.5 243 shell so it should work fine . not to sure what im going to do but i got the fever to do something. ;D ???  you all have a great holiday .

foggy  i did not know that. boy would that be sweet to cut this to 16.  i wonder if it would shoot fine that short would carry great though ill have to measure it to see if it extends past the for arm. that would mean the barrel would only be 13.5 wow that's short but its an idea . i just checked it out that would be 4.5 past the for arm. wonder how that would feel pulling up might be kinda awkward but who knows till you try right. I'm going to think about it :-\
oh by the way I'm trying to keep the grammar up its hard though ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
