DCM Ballgun?
« on: June 25, 2003, 07:32:09 PM »
Last Sunday I got around to shooting my first pistol Leg match in more'n five years. Gotta get hot on this if I want another purdy gold badge, I guess.

My question is - has anyone seen or shot any of the Beretta M9/92's that some cutting edge smiths are setting up as ballguns? My buddy showed up with one (wouldn't tell me what it cost   ) but it looked like the 92FS I was issued many years ago as a cop, with a Bar-Sto barrel wedged in there and some Bo-Mars stuck on the slide. Friend says there's a set of Accu-Rails in there too. Big deal. I beat him pretty handily with my Quantico built 1911, but I'm still curious.

Anybody have a firsthand account?

Thanks!

Not I. I'm such a Govt. model fan,Beretta would have to give me the pistol for me to compete with it. :-)

And none of the Bullseye shooters I compete with use one either.

Sorry.

This one's the first I've seen and given what they appear to cost, it may be the last! E-gad!

Truthfully, the 1911 and the Beretta 92 are probably my favorite pistols, having carried each into harm's way and into competition. Maybe it's a matter of what's familiar, I dunno.

I was curious if this newcomer was going to do to bullseye what the Plastic Unmentionable has done to highpower.

Cheers!

1911 vs Mdl 92 as Match Service Pistol
« Reply #4 on: June 27, 2003, 11:32:49 AM »
I distinguished with the 1911, but picked up a Sams accuraized Mdl 92 a couple of years ago.  Felt a bit strange at first.  My hand just knows when the .45 is seated right, so holding the 92 took a bit of getting used to.  Same with the trigger.  After a while, however, I began to appreciate the 92 (though it will never replace the 1911 in my heart).  I put Pachmayr grips on it, and a bit of grip tape fore and aft to prevent slipping.  I now believe I can shoot the 92 as good if not better than my 1911.  I do better with the 92 over the .45 when I don't practice, particularly in rapid fire.  Incidentially, I paid a grand for the 92 used from a guy who never developed a fondness for it.  At the time, that was the going price for just the conditioning on your firearm.  I think I'd have trouble going the price of the firearm AND the match conditioning, but you never know how hungary for a Leg you can get.  And, of course, I don't want to mention how much I just spent on my gold engraved Trap shotgun and Grade V Skeet Shotgun with Briley tubes.

Thanks for the skinny, Bob! That's what I was looking for.

I have too many irons in the fire right now to get focused on bullseye but the time will (soon) come when I'll need to. Then again, here in MT it's hard enough trying to get ten shooters to the line for a Leg! This second Distinguished badge may be a long time coming, it seems.

Cheers!

I know that feeling. We seldom have more than 6 shoot Bullseye anymore. But Lone Yankee & I are contrary & we'll shoot Bullseye by our lonesomes. We enjoy it that much!!

Gotta love that one handed shootin'!!!
