New Hodgdon Powder?
« on: December 24, 2007, 05:50:18 PM »
I read on another forum that Hodgdon is introducing a new powder that is equivalent in pressures to the H4350, has the characteristics of a double base powder but is extruded.  It is supposed to add 100fps to any currently comparable h4350 load.  Don't know if this is true or not anyone confirm?

I believe you are referring to the new Hybrid 100V powder.  Here is little comparative data from the Hodgdon website with the .270 Win.

The difference is CUP to PSI. I'm not at home with the data available, so I can't convert the units, but they are different.

Just found some info on CUP and PSI. There is no reliable conversion formula to interchange CUP and PSI. SAAMI has put some comparison numbers up for some cartridges. In the Win. 270 for example..SAMMI Max is 52,000 ANSI CUP and 65,000 ANSI PSI.
So Hogdgon is seemingly accurate with near Maximum loads with all powders they list. They have just listed the Hybrid with the PSI standard rather than CUP.
 Clear like mud...right?

According to the Jan 08 issue of Rifle mag Hodgdon has two new powders; HYBRID 100V and Supreme 780. Go to their web site for more info.

I just gotta ask! What will another 100 FPS do for your load? Will it kill a deer any deader or fly THAT much flatter? Or do you just like handloading THAT much? I have "invested" several thousand US$ over the years in the quest for that extra quarter MOA or 1" flatter trajectory at 300 yards, or several pounds more energy on target. Now I just shoot for the FUN of shooting. HE%%, IF I can just SEE a deer I'm happy. When I get one in the scope ,MY first thoughts are "How am I gonna get him to the truck" Some times I wish I was young again.

jhalcott, I love your post, I've been down that same exact road you're talking about and wound up in the same spot you're in right now.
Great post!
