What do you think of this?
« on: June 26, 2003, 08:01:37 AM »
A freind of mine used to be big in IHMSA (He won 3 National championships and wrote articles for them). Last night he brought me a Contender barrel in .357 Rebel. It is a 7mm BR necked up to to .357. He had started testing it in the early 90's and retired soon after, so he never completed the tests. The notes with the dies show to load it similar to a .357 Herret. This should be a kick to work up loads for. Sure could use a few more freinds like him.

That barrel sounds like a real potential frame stretcher if you load it hot.  While it CAN be made to work, the danger is great if someone tries to run pressures up to a 7BR's normal working range.  Fortunately silhouette doesn't require a real heavy load so it should be just fine...just be extremely careful as it has the potential to make a mess out of that barrel and frame...and you!!

Who is your friend?  I shoot IHMSA and NRA silhouette in Puyallup.    I may know him (maybe even the gun)

357 x 7br  should have less pressures than my Bower 30 Alaskan that is basically a .307 winchester improved.  Use common sense and have fun.  Come shoot the gun in silly wet at Paul Bunyon on the first Saturday of each month (not July though).
