Maxi Balls

As being a new member this probably has been asked before.  I have a mold and plenty of  T.C. Maxi Balls made for my flintlock.   Am thinking  of trying these in my Omega.  Anybody tried this before?    I've taken 4 deer with 295 grain Powerbelts with this gun.  Did'nt lose any, but only 1 with bullet pass thruogh.  Thanks for your' replies

I have an Encore 209x50 and haven't found a Maxi Ball that it likes. It is a tack driver with 240 or 300 grain bullets in a sabot, but does good to put 3 shots on the target at 50 yards with any maxi-ball that I have tried. I have stuff ordered to try some paper patched bullets. (Just hate the thoughts of buying sabots)
Maybe you'll have better luck.  Cain't hurt to try.

They don't work to well with the QLA. The encore and the omega were designed for modern sabots.

You dont need pass through to put them down in their tracks. My load for my .45 sidelock muzzleloader is 80 grains pyrodex p with a 225 grain powerbelt aerotip.  Anything over 85 grains powder and a short distance shot of, lets say 20-50 yards is asking for trouble on shoulder shots.

Most complains are people using 100-120-150 loads and shots that were only 30 yards.

With the omega, its a toss a coin up in the air and hopefully it will shoot the conical.

If you find that your omega does shoot the powerbelts, stay with 80 grains of powder.

My last deer i shot, i put it through part of the shoulder, took out the heart,lungs, and the off side shoulder bone broke and stopped just under the hide.

If you push the lighter weight powerbelts to fast, you'll get poor performance.

I haven't had any problems with my 195grain powerbelt areo tip pushed by 100 grains of T7. It expands and goes all the way through. It took deer just fine. Now saying that this is still my first box. I still want to shoot a good sabot and probably will as soon as I run out.

Has that 195er ever hit bone? I'd love to see some pics of what kind of damage it leaves.  Ive never considered using a smaller powerbelt like that, and probably never will, but it would be interesting to see what it does on game.  Especially with 100 grains triple 7.

Went right through the shoulder and it took out the heart and one lung. I was very impressed. That doe dropped right their on the spot. Same with another buck but it didn't hit bone it just took out the heart and two lungs.

Maxiballs can be used in all twist barrels, but it depends on the twist and size of the maxi. The 1:28 twist like big/heavy conicals in the 400+ grain range and on the other end, the 1:48/1:66 type twists like the shorter lighter conicals. If you have a 1:66 twist try conicals and/or maxis try 200-300 range weights, 1:48 likes 300-400 grain weights. You can use big heavy conicals in a slow twist, but you need to reduce the powder load. About 60-70 grains FFg is good for big conicals in a slow twist. the same goes for fast twist, use light conicals with the same loading.
