.22 Mag sportster accuracy out of the box?

What kind of accuracy is reasonable to expect out of the box with a .22M Sportster?  Do they usually need tweaking when they're new?

I've never had to tweak any of my NEF/H&R rimfires.  Each (Sportster .22 LR & .22 Mag; Ultra .22 mag) shot very well out of the box.

The Sportster .22 Mag shoots performs best with Winchester Dynapoints.  2" five shot groups at 100 yards are normal.

My .22 Mag Sportster holds just at 1" or a shade under at 100 yards with Winchester silver and black box ammo. They are just a shade better than CCI Maxi Mags at about 1" to 1 1/4" at 100 yards. Not bad for out of the box accuracy from a rimfire....<><....

Do you find the iron sights on them to be acceptable?

Yes, the iron sights were OK for what they are, iron sights, they seem to be for hunting and not for precise target work but they work. To wring the most out of the potential accuracy the gun does deserve a scope with fine or Duplex style crosshairs. I do manage to get about 1" groups at 100 yards from the bench from my .22 Mag Sportster when it is set up with my Millet Red Dot scope with the small red dot (2 MOA dot perhaps?). When I had the Simmons Red Dot on it with the 3 or 4 MOA dot it was a bit more difficult to attain small groups, but I was interested primarily in small enough groups (minute of coyote) in the woods and in hunting situations. The gun ALWAYS preformed more than adequately and better than I could....<><....
