# 2 Tikka!
« on: December 27, 2007, 03:45:51 PM »
Hey Guys,

Had to share my joy.  I just picked up a used 595 LH .308 blue/synthetic with Leupold VX-1 3x9.  Christmas present to myself   ;D

Checking out the gun shops - happened across this beauty - looked new.  I am the proud owner of a similar 595 Whitetail Hunter in .223 LH - present from my wife several years ago. Wood/blue and typical sub moa  Tikka shooter.

I held back a couple weeks on the 308 as I'm a traditionalist - blue/wood -  so the synthetic isn't my first choice.  Kept mulling it over, knowing the older 595/695 are nicer than the T3 (my opinion not flaming) and hard to come by especially in like new condition. Finally gave in knowing I would kick myself if I let it get away.

I reload for the .223 and .308 as I have an old Savage 99 - my first deer gun (sweet!) and a bunch of handloads ready for a tack driver.

Haven't got it to the range yet - hopefully this weekend if the weather is nice.  Free floated the barrel - considering bedding it after I see how it shoots.

Looking forward to a long relationship with another Tikka...love 'em!  Who knows, maybe the synthetic will grow on me - or I'll find a nice piece of wood.

308 and a Tikka . . . good for you.  You are going to love that rifle.

The nice thing about the 595 in .308 is that it has a true short action receiver, unlike the T3s which has a one-size-fits-all action.  Congrats on the rifle, and the cartridge. ;)

Thanks Guys,

Got out to the range the other day with some handloads.  As expected, it is another tack driver.  2 of the four 3 shot groups I shot - 50yd and 100yd had all three rounds touching!  165 g Sierras @ 50 yds clustered in a cloverleaf - wanted to see where it was shooting from PO.

100 yd group was 180 gr Nosler Partitions - all touching! I gotta admit the synthetic is pretty nice - seems solid not cheap plastic...might be a keeper. Leupold VX-1 is nice and clear.

I didn't shoot alot - it was getting late and c-o-l-d !  Supposed to warm up to 30's - 40's this weekend so I hope to spend more time trying different loads. (Gonna be -5* tonight!)

Maybe someone can help with my search.  I'm looking to replace the trigger guard screws on both Tikkas with hex head screws.  I looked around and came up with MT Guns - e-mailed him to see if I can buy the screws from him as he works on the 595's.  Looking for similar to Eric Brooks screws for the CZ's (another favorite of mine!) - don't know if they will fit the 595.  Anybody knows a source let me know -  hope MT Guns can help out as well.

So another happy Tikka guy....guess I gotta keep an eye out for a 595 in 6.5x55 - my next purchase.  Gun shop has a new T3 in 6.5 in wood stock - if I can't wait.  ;)
