I was told not to use 5.56 Millimeter (.223) Military Ammo in my handi rifle because it will damage the extractor. Anyone else hear this?

This topic has been discussed quite a few times on here in the past. Commercial .223 ammo and military 5.56 ammo are loaded to different specs. NEF/H&R issues a warning against using mil. spec. ammo in the .223 Handi.

The warning note can be seen in the FAQs, there's one in the box with each .223 H&R rifle.
