Finally made the plunge! Pic Added
« on: December 28, 2007, 11:05:12 AM »
Been reading the threads and decided I needed to look at an Encore Pistol..... a Pro Hunter followed me home!  Got the frame with the synthetic grip and stock at Sportsman's Warehouse for $330.  They only had the standard Encore in the rifle, but the Pro Hunter in pistol and rifle.

Now to decide which calibers and barrels to get.  As I understand from the searches any Encore barrel will work on it, nothing different with the Pro Hunter barrels vs. Encore, correct????

I'm setup to reload .454 Casull so the .460 might be the ticket, but then I don't have a 500 S&W yet  ::)  Figure I might be able to pickup some of the more common barrels used at shows.

If you can do a .460 why would you want a .500?

Banjoman: Was wondering if there was any real advantage to the 500 S&W over the 454 Casull... from what I've heard the Casull is about double the power of a 44 mag, while the 500 is triple... but, that's only what I've heard...

Spinafish: The guys at Sportsman's thought you had to use a Pro Hunter barrel, while the search I ran agrees with you... just want to be sure before I order a barrel since I'm new to the TC's.

I have a pro hunter and have both type of barrels for it (pro-hunter and standard encore).  The prohunters use the exact same frame.  The only difference is the engraving and the swing hammer.  Also the rifle comes with a different stock but they interchange with the standard encore stocks.

I have been trying to decide between a G2 and a Encore.  I like the 460.  You can shoot 454 and 45 Colt in the same barrel.  That is versatility.  Especially if you handload.

Mikedb:  As I think about it 45LC, 454, and 460... don't know if 410 would work.... That is versatility.

Deciding between the G2 and Encore... get both!  I'm keeping my eye out for a good used G2 now.... Gotta have the set  ;D
