Pillars for the Encore forend?
« on: December 30, 2007, 07:02:51 AM »
Does anyone sell or make pillars for the synthetic forend that fit the factory screws?  Or is there a viable option I can buy from the hardware store?

I use "fender washers". Ace Hardware,Lowes, ect. You will also need to get two longer screws to attach the forearm with the washers. Cheap and works. Ron

And if you cant find longer screws, just sand the channel a little deeper before installing the washers.

Had a guy come in the shop today with a Encore, and he showed me how he had relieved the pressure on the forearm/barrel. Talk about CHEAP! ;D I thought I was a tight wad,but this takes the cake, and it works well too! He said :Just go to a range where they are shooting trap, ( no sense in buying your own shells)and pick up a few 12ga. hulls. Then cut them in half with your pocket knife (sharp pocket knife). Then use a paper punch to put the holes in them. You can use as many as required (with longer screws). He even used contact cement to attach them to his forearm! :-[ I guess I can still learn a thing or two, even at my age ;D. Ron

Looks like an idea I will have to give a try. And if you made the holes a tad smaller in the hull than the screw. Slip the screw thru the forearm, push the pad over the screw, then install the forearm to the barrel. Sounds like a good idea to me!!!

Yeah Dave, that's another good idea. The hulls fit the contour(Think that's right) of the barrel perfectly! This works so well it's almost scary! :o. Kinda makes me feel dumb, running around all the hardware stores looking for the perfect washers. Ron

I am going to have to try this. Gives me an excuse to go trap shooting more now.  ;D

I sell the longer screws on E-Bay.  My name there is Head6336.  Below is a picture of the screws.  Tom.

I changed out my spacers,(washers) for the new spacers (shot shell hulls),and it works even better than the washers. I used three,at each screw location, and now have ample clearance between the barrel and forearm. This is a great,(and cheap) mod. Ron

RKS

Were you able to use the factory supplied forearm screws with the three layers of shotgun hull spacers or did you have to purchase locally or order longer ones like pictured above from Head0001 ?

If you used the factory screws with the hulls do you feel you had enough thread left to firmly secure the forearm ?

Thanks.....Ike

Ike,I had to use longer ones with three layers. If you are using two,or less, the standard  screws will work. Ron
